Afghanistan vs West Indies ODI cricket series has now reached its finale. The third and final ODI cricket game will be played at Lucknow. West Indies have already won the series by winning the first two ODIs and will be looking to win the series 3-0. Our prediction expert reckons, barring any complacency from West Indies, this game is theirs for taking.

After the debacle of 50 over World Cup earlier this year, Afghanistan went with the option of Rashid Khan as the captain. They were led by Gulbadin Naib in the World Cup.
The change in captaincy has not helped Afghanistan in ODI cricket. In conditions that were deemed favourable for Afghanistan, they have been beaten quite easily by West Indies. While in the first game they collapsed when batting first, in the second cricket game they could not chase down the total set by West Indies.
So far, neither their bowling nor their batting has managed to impress. Even the likes of Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi have been underwhelming with their performances in both games. Our prediction is of some changes to their playing eleven.
Here is our prediction of Afghanistan’s playing XI:
- Rashid Khan
- Gulbadin Naib
- Mohammad Nabi
- Rahmat Shah
- Mujeeb ur Rahman
- Ikram Alikhil
- Hazratullah Zazai
- Ashgar Afghan
- Najibullah Zadran
- Mohammad Javed Ahmadi
West Indies, after their disappointing World Cup campaign and poor cricket series against India, decided to make a change at the leadership level. Jason Holder, their skipper for a long time, has now been replaced by Keiron Pollard.
The leadership change has worked for them as West Indies have now won their first ODI cricket series since 2014. It has taken a long time coming and to do it in foreign conditions would have pleased them greatly.
Their batsmen like Shai Hope, Evin Lewis and Nicholas Pooran have been very good in this cricket series. Even their bowlers like Sheldon Cottrell and Roston Chase have been very good.
Our prediction is of the inclusion of Brandon King in the playing eleven for the next game of cricket.
Here is our prediction of West Indies’ playing XI:
- Keiron Pollard
- Jason Holder
- Brandon King
- Nicholas Pooran
- Shimron Hetmyer
- Roston Chase
- Evin Lewis
- Hayden Walsh Junior
- Sheldon Cottrell
- Alzarri Joseph
- R Shepherd
Expert Prediction: AFG vs WI
Afghanistan have lost the home series against West Indies in India. They have been outplayed thoroughly despite fielding their best playing eleven. It was thought that Afghanistan will defeat West Indies by the strength of their spin trio, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb ur Rahman and Mohammad Nabi. West Indies had plans for the spin threat and implemented them wonderfully.
The final ODI cricket game will be a good opportunity for Afghanistan to break the losing streak as they have now lost 11 games on the trot. The losing streak began in the 50 over World Cup when they lost all their games under Gulbadin Naib. There is something wrong with their cricket at the moment and the sooner they address it, the better it will be.
West Indies, on the other hand, would be welcoming this success against a good side. Keiron Pollard, the new skipper, has got the opportunity to ease into his role and he will be relishing it. They now have the opportunity to give chance to players like Brandon King who has not gotten the chance to play yet.
Our prediction is of yet another West Indies’ win in the final contest. They will be very confident about their chance as they have already beaten Afghanistan twice. If they can win it by a 3-0 margin, they will take this confidence into the future series as well.
Toss prediction? – Lucknow has produced good cricket wickets in both games so far. Although we have not seen a lot of high scores in the series yet, the games have been good. Our prediction is that team winning the toss would like to bat first.
