Cricket Match Preview:

Afghanistan had come into this cricket World Cup with a lot of hope. The manner in which they had won the qualifying tournament played in Zimbabwe showed that they could now take on bigger teams consistently. However, two games into this tournament and it seems a like missed opportunity already after their disappointing loss against struggling Sri Lanka.

New Zealand, on the other hand, are being their usual selves so far in the tournament. They came into the tournament without much fuss about them and began in a destructive manner against Sri Lanka. They won that cricket game by ten wickets and with plenty of overs to spare. They were tested in the second game against Bangladesh and, despite being not at their very best, they won that cricket game by two wickets.

Afghanistan were in with a great chance in their second game against Sri Lanka. Their opponents had been poor for a very long time and were coming into the game following a heavy loss against New Zealand. But Afghanistan were very poor with the new ball on a helpful pitch and in helpful conditions. Sri Lanka raced away at the start and it looked as if they will post a total of around 300 runs.

Mohammad Nabi, with his brilliance then, caused a typical collapse for Sri Lanka and Afghanistan were back in the game. They were chasing a total of 186 runs on a helpful pitch for pacers but would have been backing themselves. In reply, they played some irresponsible shots and their chances of win kept on decreasing with every falling wicket. In the end, Afghanistan lost the game by 34 runs and now find themselves at the bottom of the table.

It might be argued that New Zealand have got slightly easier opponents than the other teams so far but they have made the most of it. Each team is required to win six cricket games to qualify for the semi-final and with two games already in their bag, they are almost halfway to yet another semi-final qualification. As for Afghanistan, they will have to find inspiration and discipline in their game in order to open their account in this cricket World Cup.

Cricket Match Information:

Afghanistan will take on New Zealand in their third cricket game of the World Cup. While Afghanistan have lost both their games so far, New Zealand have won both their cricket games. Each team is supposed to play nine cricket games in the group stage and the top four teams will progress to the semi-final.

Probable XI (Our Prediction):

Afghanistan are being led by Gulbadin Naib in this World Cup. Our prediction is of the inclusion of former skipper Asghar Afghan for this cricket game.

Here is our prediction of Afghanistan’s playing XI:

  • Mohammad Shehzad
  • Hazratullah Zazai
  • Rahmat Shah
  • Asghar Afghan
  • Samiullah Shinwari
  • Mohammad Nabi
  • Najibullah Zadran
  • Hamid Hasan
  • Gulbadin Naib
  • Rashid Khan
  • Dawlat Zadran

New Zealand

Probable XI (Our Prediction):

New Zealand are being led by Kane Williamson in the World Cup. They are coming into this game after two consecutive wins. Our prediction is of the same playing eleven that played the last cricket game.

Here is our prediction of New Zealand’s playing XI:

  • Martin Guptill
  • Colin Munro
  • Kane Williamson
  • Ross Taylor
  • Tom Latham
  • Jimmy Neesham
  • Colin de Grandhomme
  • Trent Boult
  • Mitchell Santner
  • Matt Henry
  • Lockie Ferguson

Cricket Statistics and Prediction:

Lockie Ferguson has been the X-factor for New Zealand in this World Cup. While Trent Boult and Matt Henry have done the damage at the start of the innings, Ferguson has not allowed the opponents to relax with his pace. Our prediction is of another good performance from him.

Cricket Match Conditions and Pitch:

This last ODI cricket game was played here between India and Sri Lanka way back in the 1999 World Cup. A lot has changed since then but the most unbelievable aspect of that cricket game was the fact that India scored 373 runs in that game. That score was almost unheard of during the time. Our prediction is of a high score in this cricket game as well especially if New Zealand bat first

Our Prediction:

New Zealand will begin this game of cricket as favourites. They have simply been in great form so far in this World Cup. Hence, our prediction is of a New Zealand win.

Top Batsman (Prediction):

Martin Guptill (NZ) – 50+ runs

Top Bowler (Prediction):

Trent Boult (NZ) – 2 or more wickets

Most Sixes (Prediction):

Colin Munro (NZ)
