Cricket Match Preview:

Stars have aligned for Pakistan. After England’s second consecutive defeat in the tournament, it is up to Pakistan to take advantage. They have three cricket games left by the time this piece is being written and if they can win all their games, it will set cats among the pigeons. Afghanistan, on the other hand, are out of the tournament and all they can do now is break the hearts of teams like Pakistan.

After their defeat to India, Pakistan had to endure extreme criticisms from their own fans, former players and the media. But they put their head down and bounced back strongly against low-moraled South Africa. It was a complete performance from them as they scored a total of over 300 runs after batting first and then restricted South Africa to just 259 runs. It was a big win and an important win in the context of the tournament.

Afghanistan, on the other hand, after giving a real scare to India, could not quite repeat a similar performance against Bangladesh. Their bowling and fielding on choosing to field first was average and it allowed Bangladesh to put up an above-par score of 262 runs on a used wicket. In reply, they never got going and unlike India’s game, where Mohammad Nabi played a heroic knock, they could not find anyone to repeat that performance.

Pakistan and Afghanistan have a shared history and a lot of Afghanistan’s players have learned their craft by playing in Pakistan. Players like Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan and various others have played in Pakistan’s domestic cricket. But with deteriorating political relations, that exchange has reduced hence, the game of cricket is expected to be very competitive.

In their last cricket game against each other in the Asia Cup, Afghanistan nearly beat Pakistan as the latter reached their target of 257 runs with just three wickets in hand. But that Afghanistan team was on another level confidence wise, whereas it is now increasingly looking like they want to be done with this tournament as soon as possible. Therein lies the chance for Pakistan to win and win big to boost their net run rate.

Cricket Match Information:

Afghanistan and Pakistan will take on each other in their eighth game of the ICC World Cup 2019. So far, Afghanistan have lost all their cricket games while Pakistan have won two games. Currently on the points table, Afghanistan are on the last spot, whereas Pakistan are on the seventh spot. The top four teams will qualify to the semi-final.

Probable XI (Our Prediction):

Afghanistan are being led by Gulbadin Naib in this World Cup. Afghanistan have been miserable in the tournament so far with seven back-to-back losses. Our prediction is of the same playing eleven for this game of cricket that played their last game unless there is some injury.

Here is our prediction of Afghanistan’s playing XI:

  • Noor Ali Zadran
  • Hazratullah Zazai
  • Rahmat Shah
  • Hashmatullah Shahidi
  • Asghar Afghan
  • Mohammad Nabi
  • Ikram Alikhil
  • Najibullah Zadran
  • Gulbadin Naib
  • Rashid Khan
  • Dawlat Zadran

Probable XI (Our Prediction):

Pakistan are being led by Sarfraz Ahmed in this tournament. They are coming off a fine win over South Africa. Our prediction is of the same playing eleven that played against South Africa.

Here is our prediction of Pakistan’s playing XI:

  • Imam-ul-Haq
  • Fakhar Zaman
  • Babar Azam
  • Haris Sohail
  • Mohammad Hafeez
  • Sarfraz Ahmed
  • Shahdab Khan
  • Imad Wasim
  • Mohammad Aamir
  • Wahab Riaz
  • Shaheen Afridi

Cricket Statistics and Prediction:

Mohammad Aamir had been the lone warrior for Pakistan until the game against South Africa, where Wahab Riaz gave some contributions as well. Aamir’s opening spell has been destructive against every opponent and he has been economical in the end overs as well. Hence, our prediction is of a good performance from him yet again.

Cricket Match Conditions and Pitch:

The last international ODI cricket game played here was between Sri Lanka and England recently. It was a low-scoring thriller that Sri Lanka won by 20 runs. Our prediction is of the score of around 250 in this game of cricket. Conditions are expected to be cold and windy.

Our Prediction:

Pakistan will begin this game of cricket as favourites. They have just begun to get into their groove, and it is not going to be easy for an increasingly weary Afghanistan cricket team. Hence, our prediction is of a Pakistan victory.

Top Batsman (Prediction):

Babar Azam (PAK) – 50+ runs

Top Bowler (Prediction):

Mohammad Aamir (PAK) – 2 or more wickets

Most Sixes (Prediction):

Mohammad Hafeez (PAK)
