Cricket Match Preview:

With their two back-to-back games abandoned, Sri Lanka have not played a cricket game for 11 days now. That is a big gap when you are competing in a tournament as big as the World Cup. Australia, on the other hand, will be playing their third game within the span of a week. While a break is needed when a team is losing, it is appreciated if a team is on a winning run like Australia.

Australia, post their defeat against India, bounced back strongly against Pakistan. Buoyed by the opening partnership between Aaron Finch and David Warner, Australia set up a total of 307 runs for Pakistan. The score could have been a lot more had Mohammad Aamir not bowled an outstanding spell later in the innings. In fact, Australia did not even play their quota of 50 overs and were bowled out under 49 overs.

Australia’s bowling has not looked best in the tournament, but it has done the job. Twice in four cricket games against West Indies and Pakistan, they got out of the jail courtesy of some good bowling and poor shot selections from their opponents. As a result, Australia find themselves in a pretty good position at this stage of the tournament.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, were pretty poor against New Zealand, where they lost the game of cricket by ten wickets. They came back well against Afghanistan as they beat them by 34 runs. But it was not a sort of performance that will make the other teams sit back and notice them. In fact, they were in real danger of losing the cricket game after Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi caused a massive collapse later in their batting innings.

Sri Lanka have also been marred by the injury to their fast bowler, Nuwan Pradeep. It will be interesting to see Sri Lanka’s approach especially after a gap of more than ten days. Australia, on the other hand, would be looking at a slightly easier game after two back-to-back relatively close games against India and Pakistan. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, would be looking to pull the biggest upset of the tournament against Australia.

Cricket Match Information:

Australia will take on Sri Lanka in their fifth game of the World Cup 2019. So far, Australia have played four cricket games and won three of those, whereas Sri Lanka have played four cricket games as well, of which two have been abandoned. Each cricket team is supposed to play nine group games and the top four cricket teams will go through to the semi-final.

  • David Warner
  • Steve Smith
  • Alex Carrey
  • Glenn Maxwell
  • Marcus Stoinis
  • Kane Richardson
  • Usman Khawaja
  • Mitch Starc
  • Nathan Coulter-Nile
  • Pat Cummins

Sri Lanka

Probable XI (Our Prediction):

Sri Lanka have a new captain in Dimuth Karunaratne and he will be looking to change the fortune of a struggling side. Our prediction is of the same playing eleven that played the last cricket game.

Here is our prediction of Sri Lanka’s playing XI:

  • Dimuth Karunaratne
  • Lahiru Thirimanne
  • Kusal Mendis
  • Kusal Perera
  • Angelo Matthews
  • Thisara Perera
  • Dhananjaya de Silva

Cricket Statistics and Prediction:

David Warner will once again be in focus when Australia take on Sri Lanka. He has scored a lot of runs so far but not at a brisk rate. Our prediction is of another good knock from him.

Cricket Match Conditions and Pitch:

The last international cricket ODI cricket played here was between India and Australia recently. It was a high-scoring game, which India won by 36 runs. Our prediction is of the score of around 300 in this cricket game. Conditions are expected to be dry.

Our Prediction:

Australia will begin this game of cricket as favourites. They have registered a good win against Pakistan in their previous cricket game and are at number two on the points table right now. Hence, our prediction is of an Australian win.
