Cricket Match Preview:
After a harsh cricket tour of India, Windies travel eastwards to take on the hosts Bangladesh. Windies were trounced 0-2 by India in the mini-series as the Caribbean team crumbled against a superior side playing their best cricket. Shannon Gabriel, Shai Hope, Shimron Hetmyer, Roston Chase and Jason Holder were the positives for Windies from the cricket tour.
The touring side faced a body blow as Jason Holder’s injury news surfaced. The Captain has been ruled out of the cricket tour, and Windies will miss him badly. Holder is not only a good leader and a bowler but is also an important cog in the batting order, too. He showed his significance in the second Test against India, and Windies will miss him sorely.
Raymon Reifer has been included as the replacement of Jason Holder. Remaining touring party stays the same. Windies will once again rely on Kraigg Brathwaite, Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer to deliver with the bat. Roston Chase is a batsman with Test cricket temperament. The Windies lack a quality spinner, and that will set them back in these cricket conditions.
Bangladesh were shell-shocked in the first Test against Zimbabwe on the home soil. The home team was defeated by a huge margin, and questions were raised on their red-ball progress. The Bangladesh team will not have forgotten how they were humiliated in West Indies by the Windies team five months ago. The lowest point was, of course, being shot down for just 43 runs.
The Tigers did make a comeback in style as they came up trumps against Zimbabwe in the second Test. Mushfiqur Rahim was the batting hero as he registered his second double century in Test cricket and also the highest individual Test score in Bangladesh cricket. Taijul Islam impressed with his bowling by picking up seven wickets and was ably supported by Mehidy Hasan.
With Shakib Al Hasan back in the side, Bangladesh’s batting strength has moved up a notch. Soumya Sarkar has been called up to fill the opener’s spot, and he will be an attraction, too. This collision between Bangladesh and Windies should lead to an interesting cricket battle.
Cricket Match Information:
Windies and Bangladesh have played 14 Test cricket matches with each other and Windies lead the overall tally with 10 Wins in their account. Bangladesh have defeated them twice while two cricket matches have been draws. Bangladesh is yet to defeat Windies at home. They have a chance to create cricket history in this mini two-match Test series.
Probable XI (Our Prediction):
Bangladesh have declared the 13-man squad for this Test match. The great boost for them is the return of Shakib Al Hasan, who was injured in the Asia Cup and was sidelined for two months. The Asian nation has also decided to try out a new opener after continuous failures from the regular pair. Saumya Sarkar will be the new opener.
Here is our prediction of Bangladesh playing XI:
- Soumya Sarkar
- Imrul Kayes
- Mohammad Mithun
- Shakib Al Hasan
- Mominul Haque
- Mushfiqur Rahim
- Mehidy Hasan Miraz
- Mustafizur Rahman
- Taijul Islam
- Syed Khaled Ahmed
Probable XI (Our Prediction):
The injury to Jason Holder comes as a big blow to the Windies since he is not only the Captain and a lead bowler but also an important batsman. He has been replaced by Raymon Reifer. The remaining side is expected to be the same that played against India.
Here is our prediction of Windies playing XI:
- Kraigg Brathwaite
- Kieran Powell
- Shai Hope
- Shimron Hetmyer
- Sunil Ambris
- Roston Chase
- Shane Dowrich
- Raymon Reifer
- Devendra Bishoo
- Jomel Warrican
- Shannon Gabriel
Cricket Statistics and Prediction:
Mushfiqur Rahim was outstanding against Zimbabwe in the second Test match, where he struck his second double century. He will be looking out for a big score against the Windies as well. Shai Hope is a classic Test cricketer and in the absence of Holder, he will bear the extra responsibility to perform well.
Cricket Match Conditions and Pitch:
As usual, the pitch at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Cricket Stadium is expected to be a dustbowl. There will be ample support for the spinners after the first two days. The team batting first will be the favourite for the win prediction.
Bangladesh will be favourites to win this cricket match. They did lose against Zimbabwe but scripted an amazing comeback to equalise the cricket series. Windies were steamrolled by India and without Jason Holder, their batting may not hold together against the Bangladeshi bowling. Our prediction will be of a Bangladesh victory.
