Cricket Match Preview:
Seldom has a team dominated a tournament like Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) have in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). With three titles already in their bag, they are comfortably the best team in the history of this tournament. However, Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) are stealing their thunder this season. They are the only unbeaten side of the tournament after seven cricket games, whereas TKR’s unbeaten run was cut short abruptly by St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in a super over encounter.
However, TKR have seen this all before and they would be saying to themselves that what happens in the playoffs is what is remembered for years to come. For now, TKR must first seal the playoff spot. They have played six cricket games so far and have won four games with one loss and one abandoned game of cricket. They just need to win two more games out of the remaining four games, and they should finish among the top two spots on the points table.
Barbados Tridents are still hanging in there in the contention of the playoff spot but mainly due to the poor performances of the other teams rather than their good performance. They have played six cricket games and have won just two of them. Their advantage is the fact that they still have four games remaining, whereas teams with whom they are in tussle with have almost exhausted their quota. Hence, Tridents will be aware of what needs to be done in case it all goes down to the wire.
For Tridents, the problem has been their batting, which has not been consistent enough. In their last cricket game, their batsmen faltered while chasing a small target of 128 runs and lost a golden opportunity of winning the game. The bowlers had done a commendable job on a helpful surface and Tridents will be ruing the loss which could have separated them from the crowd.
TKR will be hoping that a mini-break would have not halted their momentum. They cannot afford to be rusty at this stage of the tournament when every team is looking to win as many cricket games as possible. The likes of Colin Munro and Jimmy Neesham need to ensure that they hit the ground up and running.
Cricket Match Information:
Barbados Tridents will take on Trinbago Knight Riders in their seventh cricket game of this edition of CPL. Currently, Tridents are on the fifth spot, whereas TKR are on the second spot on the points table. The top four teams will qualify for the playoff round and the final will be played on 12th October at Brian Lara Stadium, Trinidad.
