Cricket Match Information:
Brisbane Heat vs Sydney Thunder will be the first cricket game of the latest season of the Big Bash League. This will be the ninth season of the tournament and they have made some changes for this season. First of all, the number of days for the tournament has been reduced from 57 to 42 days. The final will be played on 27th January. Melbourne Renegades won the last season and will be entering the tournament as defending champions. Our prediction is of a fantastic start for this season of BBL.

Brisbane Heat are going to be led by Chris Lynn in this cricket series. They were led by Chris Lynn last year as well. While the ‘Bash Brothers’ are no longer there, with Brendon McCullum having retired, the onus of bashing now lies with Lynn.
Heat finished at the fifth spot last year and would like to make amends this year. The side has a nice mixture of some international stars and upcoming domestic talents. The news that made the biggest noise was the signing of AB de Villiers. He is going to be available from January till the end of the season and that is great news for Heat fans.
Our prediction is of the inclusion of Tom Banton in the playing eleven.
Here is our prediction of Brisbane Heat’s playing XI:
- Chris Lynn
- Max Bryant
- Tom Banton
- Ben Cutting
- Zahir Khan
- Mujeeb ur Rahman
- James Pattinson
- Ben Laughlin
- Matt Renshaw
- Sam Heazlett
- Jimmy Peirson
Sydney Thunder are going to be led by Calum Ferguson this season. Thunder have been largely poor in the tournament except for the fifth season, when they won the tournament.
Thunder have got the squad to do well this season. Players like Usman Khawaja, Jason Sangha, Alex Hales and Chris Green have all got something to prove for different reasons. Chris Green has been signed by Thunder for six years, which is an unheard-of deal in the franchise cricket.
Our prediction is of the inclusion of Chris Morris and Alex Hales as overseas stars in the playing eleven.
Here is our prediction of Sydney Thunder’s playing XI:
- Calum Ferguson
- Usman Khawaja
- Jason Sangha
- Alex Hales
- Calum Ferguson
- Chris Green
- Chris Morris
- Arjun Nair
- Jay Lenton
- Chris Tremain
- Gurinder Sandhu
Expert Prediction: BH vs ST
The ninth season of Big Bash League is here. The tournament will be played over a period of 42 days and a total number of five teams will have the chance to qualify for the finals, instead of the usual four teams.
As per the new format, the teams finishing in the top two will be rewarded for their consistency, unlike previous seasons. While the winner of the ‘qualifier’ played between the top two teams will reach the final straightaway, the loser will play the ‘challenger’ against the winner of the ‘knockout’ which is going to be played between the side that finished third and winner of the ‘eliminator’.
The Eliminator is a newly introduced knockout feature which will be played between the teams finishing at number fourth and fifth on the points table. Hence, out of the eight teams, five teams will have a chance to play the final and win the tournament.
Brisbane Heat and Sydney Thunder will be the teams to kickstart the tournament. In the last five encounters between the two sides, Heat have been the winner on four occasions and the latest cricket game was rained off. However, franchise cricket should not be judged across the years as teams change quite frequently over the years.
Our prediction is of a winning start for Sydney Thunder. Thunder seem to have more depth in their squad while Heat still seem a bit too reliant on a few cricket players.
Toss prediction? – The team winning the toss will definitely look to bowl first as the T20 game is hugely a chase-friendly format. Hence, irrespective of the conditions, our prediction is that the team winning the toss would like to bowl first.
