This one-sided rivalry has slowly become competitive thanks to the rise of Bangladesh in recent years. The result of the last three games played between these two sides is the testimony to this fact. Bangladesh had emerged victorious on all the three occasions in the series played immediately after the 2015 World Cup in Bangladesh.

However, since then Pakistan has become a much better ODI side and it won’t be easy for Bangladesh to overcome this challenge. Their task becomes even tougher without their prime batsman Tamim Iqbal. But Pakistan has their own problems right now. Their batsmen aren’t able to score freely and their bowlers aren’t able to show their traditional class.

Both the teams were stretched by Afghanistan in their respective Super Four games. While Bangladesh managed to beat Afghanistan by 3 runs due to the hara-kiri committed by the latter in their last 10 deliveries. On the other hand, Pakistan managed to beat Afghanistan due to the presence of experienced Shoaib Malik at the end.

Those games against Afghanistan showed that there is plenty of work to be done for both the teams and both will have to work on their weaknesses if they have to qualify for the final. For Pakistan, none of their openers has been consistent and as a result, pressure has quickly fallen upon likes of Babar Azam and Shoaib Malik to resurrect the innings. This hasn’t allowed their middle order to play to their strength and have had to contend with a low scoring rate. Their problems have also been amplified because of their poor catching and bowling which hasn’t managed to strike early in the innings.

For Bangladesh, none of their batsmen apart from Mushfiqur Rahim have been able to perform. Especially Shakib Al Hasan who has been good with the ball but just hasn’t managed to score any runs with the bat. If Bangladesh has to win against Pakistan another batsman will have to score runs. In the last game, Mahmudullah and Imrul Kayes took them to safe score when they were tottering at the score of 87 for 5. Their bowlers have done the job, but you can’t expect them to bail them out every time. Likes of Mashrafe Mortaza and Mustafizur Rahman will hold the key once again for Bangladesh.

Bangladesh and Pakistan are going to clash in what will be the final game of the Super Four. It is going to be a do or die game for both the teams as both the teams have lost one game each. India has already qualified for the final. The final of the Asia Cup will be played on 28th of September at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. Out of the four teams in Super Four, Afghanistan has already been eliminated.

Pakistan won their game against Afghanistan by chasing the total while Bangladesh won by defending the total. In the big game where none of the two teams particularly like to chase, expect both the side to bat first on winning the toss.

Pitch in Abu Dhabi has been similar to Dubai so far where run making hasn’t been too easy. Scores of 250 have proven to be winning or near winning total. More of the same can be expected in this must-win pressure game as well. If the team batting first can score 250 it will be highly competitive and can prove to be a match-winning total. Conditions are expected to be dry and hot.

Pakistan will begin the game as our favourite to win the game. They have proven time and again that the moment you count them out they can strike back at you and catch you unaware. They have the arsenal to win them the game, but important thing will be to begin well with both bat and ball. So far, they haven’t got the desired start with the bat hence, it’s crucial that the likes of Fakhar Zaman start performing. Bangladesh will be an underdog for this game, but they can trouble Pakistan if their big guns can fire on the big day.
