Pakistan was last seen in action on July 22 when they beat Zimbabwe in Zimbabwe by the margin of 5-0. They have been in a fine form in recent times in ODI cricket. After their famous win against the arch-rivals India in the Champions Trophy final they haven’t looked back.

Their Achilles heels for a long time in ODI cricket, batting and fielding have improved by leaps and bounds. Ever since they infused new blood in their ODI setup in the form of Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam they have changed the notion that Pakistan can’t score quickly in ODI cricket. Those three are the top 3 run scorers for Pakistan in past one year with 813, 544 and 518 runs. The presence of old guards like Shoaib Malik has been an asset for them as well who apart from being a fabulous middle order player has also contributed to the side by his cool head and experience.

Their fielding has been the most improved aspect of their game in recent times. Helped massively by the recently resigned fielding coach, Australia’s Steve Rixon, Pakistan can now pride themselves of standing shoulder to shoulder with all the modern teams. Their fielding had begun to be the butt of all jokes but ever since the youngsters like Shahdab Khan, Hasan Ali have made it to the team the fitness culture has changed, and they have begun to take their fielding seriously as well. Some of the catches taken by Shahdab Khan in Zimbabwe were simply breath-taking and must have been inspiring for any kids watching in Lahore or Karachi.

When you talk about Pakistan their bowling can’t remain behind. It is in their blood and in a deeply rooted culture. Out of all the teams participating in Asia Cup only they have brought 6 fast bowlers to the tournament. This tells you something about their ever so present fast bowling reserves and what a luxury it is going to be for them in a closely scheduled tournament like this. Presence of Mohd. Aamir, Hasan Ali, Usman Khan, Shaheen Afridi will bring a lot of excitement to all the fans and neutrals. Shahdab Khan and Shoaib Malik will bring in spin to the game as well.

For Hong Kong, it will be about soaking in the atmosphere and gaining as much experience as possible from their two scheduled games. While the prospect of an upset is very less if they can just compete in either or both games it will please their team. Led by Anshuman Rath, this team has talent as they showed in the qualifier now its all about doing the same on the big stage.

Their batting will revolve around top 3 players, skipper Anshuman Rath, experienced Babar Hyat and Nizakat Khan. While the onus of bowling will fall on the shoulder of Tanwir Afzal, Ehsan Khan and the hero of the final in the qualifier Aizaz Khan.

Pakistan will take on Hong Kong in the second game of the Asia Cup. It is going to be a big moment for Hong Kong who qualified for the tournament through a fantastic win over UAE in the Asia Cup qualifier held in Kuala Lumpur. Hong Kong’s two-game scheduled in this tournament are against Pakistan and India. It can’t get better than this for them exposure wise.

It will only be the second game of the tournament hence, the nature of the pitch will still be relatively unknown. However, Pakistan has played here most in recent times would know that pitch becomes drier as the match progresses. They may choose to bat first and put the scoreboard pressure on Hong Kong. Hong Kong too would like Pakistan to bat first, as that will be their best chance of creating an upset.

Pitch will be dry and will get drier as the match progresses. It will play better under lights and might do a bit for pacers. Conditions are expected to be dry.

Pakistan will begin as overwhelming favourites for this game. They are one of the tournament favourites and it is going to be extremely difficult for Hong Kong to compete.
