Location of Match: M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru

Format: T20

Stage: Group Stage

Tournament: Karnataka Premier League

Team A: Bengaluru Blasters

Team B: Belagavi Panthers

Team B Captain: Stuart Binny

In the previous game between these two teams, Belagavi beat Bengaluru Blasters by 23 runs. Belagavi then went on to lift the cup while Blasters didn’t even make the semi-finals. This year led by Stuart Binny, Belagavi would want to begin well in their defence of the title. They would want to set the tone for the rest of the tournament and to do that they would like their big names to do well. Unarguably their biggest name, Manish Pandey has a point to prove and as India still look for their number four for their ODI Team he could still lay the claim if he has a great season.

Another player who will have a point to prove and give the remainder to the selectors is Stuart Binny. With Hardik Pandya already adding to the depth of Indian side Binny might give another option to the team. Apart from these big names Panthers also have a group of promising youngsters in Shubham Hegde, Aman Khan who add to the balance of the squad. To repeat their performance of last year Belagavi would need another collective effort.

Bengaluru Blasters, on the other hand, would like to begin by surprising the defenders. They had a disappointing season last year but this year after the shuffle they have the services of Robin Uthappa. While Uthappa didn’t exactly set the stage on fire in this season of IPL, his experience will be invaluable for Blasters. Also from Uthappa’s own point of view, a good season here would hold him in a good stead and might push him to a leadership role in KKR setup if Dinesh Karthik’s form dips. They would also like Abhishek Bhatt to continue his good form of last year when he picked up 11 wickets in 6 matches. Apart from these two, they would want their relatively lesser known players to come good as well.

The tournament will truly benefit the Indian cricket if the lesser known players make the tournament their own just like Stalin Hoover did last time around. Only then the pool of players will increase and as we have seen in recent times in England, a need may arise any time in International Cricket.

It’s the season of T20s in India and after the recently concluded Tamil Nadu, Premier League (TNPL) viewers have another T20 tournament to look forward to in Karnataka Premier League. It is going to be the seventh season of the tournament. The tournament has had a new winner each time and it remains to be seen if that trend continues this year as well. In this year’s opening game Bengaluru Blasters take on the defending champions of the last year Belagavi Panthers. This encounter will commence the battle between seven teams for the period of the next three weeks. Teams will tussle with each other to finally make a place in Semi-finals beginning from 4th of September. The winners of the Semi-finals will then meet in the Final on 6th September.

Weather is likely to be a factor at the toss and in such situations invariably Captains decide to field first. Teams would like to know what they have to chase especially as conditions of the pitches and external factors like rain is unknown. Team defending will have their task cut out.

The pitch should be full of runs especially as it will be tournament opener. People turning up to watch the game will like to see lots of sixes and fours and hence pitch should be really flat. Rain could play the mood spoiler but with high-quality drainage facility available at Chinnaswamy crowd must expect a game.

Belagavi being the defending champions begins as our favourite in the opener. They have some well-known faces who have handled pressure before and that gives them the distinct advantage, to begin with. However, Bengaluru would want to upset the champions to set their tone for rest of the tournament. If Uthappa has a season like he did with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014 he may even win the tournament on his own. Belagavi would do well to remember that.

Who will Win? – Belagavi Panthers
Top Batsman (Runs Scored) – 50+, Robin Uthappa
Top Bowler (Wickets taken) – 3, Abhishek Bhatt
Most Sixes – Robin Uthappa

Bet Now and Win!
