Cricket Match Preview:

Australia have fulfilled their ultimate dream of retaining the Ashes in England. They had won the Ashes back home and by the virtue of their 2-1 lead in this cricket series, they have ensured that the urn returns home. England, on the other hand, could not fulfil their dream of winning the cricket World Cup and the Ashes in the same season in home conditions.

However, there is still a lot to play for. Australia have not managed to win the test series in England for 18 years now. They last won the cricket series in England in 2001 and if one takes into account the kind of players that have toured England, the likes of Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist, Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath, etc., it seems unbelievable how none of those Australian cricket teams managed to win a series in England.

England would like to cling on to that fact though, 2-2 sounds a lot better than a 3-1 lost series. They would like to show that the victory at Headingly was not an anomaly. They would like to show that they are more than the brilliance of one individual, that their choice of players like Jos Butler and Jonny Bairstow is not near the end of their test career. More importantly, they will have to do it for their increasingly under-pressure skipper, Joe Root. While England’s ODI team have topped the charts for a number of years now, their test stocks have fallen rapidly in the past few years.

Australia have a few of their agenda set as well for this cricket game. They have largely relied on two men, Steve Smith and Pat Cummins, to win them the cricket games in this cricket series. While Steve Smith has simply been Bradman-esque with the bat in this cricket series, Cummins has been the best bowler for Australia in this series. But apart from that, there have not been too many significant contributions with the bat and ball. The form of David Warner has been a big concern, especially in the batting department. The likes of Travis Head and Matthew Wade have played one good knock each but have not been consistent. With the ball, Josh Hazlewood has been very good but Mitch Starc has been inconsistent.

Cricket Match Information:

England will take on Australia in the fifth and final test match of the Ashes cricket series. Australia are currently leading the cricket series by 2-1, having won the fourth test match. With that win, Australia have retained the Ashes and even if England win the final test match, it will not change that.

England

Probable XI (Our Prediction):

England are being led by Joe Root in this cricket series. They have also retained the 13-member squad for this cricket series, which means they are not looking to do any changes to their eleven. Hence, our prediction is of the same eleven.

Here is our prediction of England’s playing XI:

  • Sam Curran
  • RJ Burns
  • Jonny Bairstow
  • Joe Root
  • Ben Stokes
  • Jos Butler
  • Chris Woakes
  • Jofra Archer
  • Stuart Broad
  • JL Denly
  • MJ Leach

Australia

Probable XI (Our Prediction):

Australia are being led by Tim Paine in this cricket series. Our prediction is of the same playing eleven that played the last cricket game as they helped them win the fourth test match.

Here is our prediction of Australia’s playing XI:

  • MS Harris
  • David Warner
  • M Labuschagne
  • Steve Smith
  • Matthew Wade
  • Travis Head
  • Nathan Lyon
  • Mitch Starc
  • Josh Hazlewood
  • Tim Paine
  • Pat Cummins

Cricket Statistics and Prediction:

In a cricket series where the likes of Ben Stokes and Steve Smith have gone away with all the credits, Australian fast bowler, Josh Hazlewood, has been quietly brilliant. He has regularly provided Australia with the breakthroughs and helped them be in a good position. Our prediction is of another good game of cricket for him.

Cricket Match Conditions and Pitch:

The last international cricket test match played here was between India and England in 2018. England won that cricket game by a big margin of 118 runs after scoring 332 runs on batting first. Our prediction is of the score of around 350 by the team batting first in this cricket game. Conditions are expected to be good for cricket.

Our Prediction:

Australia will begin this game of cricket as favourites. They are sky-high on confidence after retaining the Ashes and will be looking to win the cricket series now. Our prediction is of Australia’s win in this cricket game.

Top Batsman (Prediction):

Steve Smith (AUS) – 50+ runs

Top Bowler (Prediction):

Josh Hazlewood (AUS) – 4 or more wickets

Most Sixes (Prediction):

Ben Stokes (ENG)
