Cricket Match Preview:

25 sixes were hit by England in their game against Sri Lanka. 17 of which were hit by England’s skipper Eoin Morgan alone. That is more than the collective sixes hit by teams like India and Pakistan so far in the cricket World Cup. That is the kind of dominance England instilled in their opponents Afghanistan in their last game.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, have not exactly had a torrid time as predicted by many before the World Cup began. That is also because their two cricket games were abandoned and they won the game against Afghanistan. They are quite well-placed at this stage of the tournament on the sixth spot, which is higher than the current rank of South Africa, West Indies and Pakistan cricket teams.

England are going to be a tough task for Sri Lanka. While the latter did perform well against Australia in patches, that will not be enough against the top teams like England. England, even without their regular opener, Jason Roy, have gone about their business in a ruthless manner. In a game which many predicted to be a banana peel for them, they hammered Afghanistan by 150 runs.

The game between England and Afghanistan was played on a used pitch, which was first used in India-Pakistan game of cricket. It was expected that Afghanistan spinners will be finally effective in this cricket game, but England hammered 397 runs after batting first and the best spinner in the world, Rashid Khan, was hammered for 110 runs in just nine overs.

Sri Lanka were good in patches against Australia. They restricted them to a lower total than it looked like after 40 overs mark of Australian innings. Then in the run chase, they began in a fantastic manner courtesy of Kusal Perera and Dimuth Karunaratne. But the customary Sri Lankan collapse in the middle overs ruled out the chances of a fabulous run chase. Sri Lankan batting has been a problem for a while now and, unless they improve it, it is hard to imagine another victory for them in this World Cup.

Cricket Match Information:

England will take on Sri Lanka in their sixth game of the World Cup. So far, England have played five cricket games and won four of those, whereas Sri Lanka have played five cricket games as well, of which they have won one while two of their games have been abandoned. Currently, England are on the top position on the points table, whereas Sri Lanka are on the sixth spot.

Probable XI (Our Prediction):

Sri Lanka have not won too many games of cricket in recent years and that has continued even in this World Cup. Our prediction is of the same playing eleven that played in their last cricket game.

Here is our prediction of Sri Lanka’s playing XI:

  • Dimuth Karunaratne
  • Lahiru Thirimanne

  • Kusal Perera
  • Angelo Matthews
  • Thisara Perera
  • Dhananjaya de Silva

Cricket Statistics and Prediction:

Joe Root has been in brilliant form in this cricket World Cup. He has held the England batting together in the tournament. Our prediction is of another good knock from him.

Cricket Match Conditions and Pitch:

The last international cricket ODI cricket played here was between England and Pakistan recently. It was a high-scoring game, which England won by 54 runs. Our prediction is of a score of around 350 in this cricket game especially if England bat first. Conditions are expected to be dry.

Our Prediction:

England will begin this game of cricket as favourites. They have had a formidable record against Sri Lanka in recent times. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, have been unsure about their eleven as well as not been in great form. Hence, our prediction is of an Australian win.

Top Batsman (Prediction):

Joe Root (ENG) – 50+ runs

Top Bowler (Prediction):

Jofra Archer (ENG) – 2 or more wickets

Most Sixes (Prediction):

Eoin Morgan (ENG)
