The result of the game between Bangladesh and Afghanistan sealed the fate of Afghanistan. The most exciting team in the tournament had to go out because of the second narrow loss on the trot. Afghanistan has played wonderful cricket so far in the tournament and the expectation had risen dramatically from them over the course of the tournament.

Afghanistan having beaten Bangladesh earlier in the tournament were expected to come through against the latter again, but the experience came to the rescue for Bangladesh. Despite choosing to bat first on winning the toss, Afghanistan had Bangladesh at 87 for 5 with their man in form Mushfiqur Rahim just dismissed. However, Mahmudullah and Imrul Kayes resurrected the innings and took Bangladesh to a decent score of 249.

It was always going to be difficult for the side which is still coming to terms with how to pace their innings over the 50 overs. They got off to a poor start and it looked like it will be a difficult game for their batsmen. But once again like their previous game, skipper Asghar Afghan and Hasmatullah Shahidi built a good partnership and gave the chance to rest of the batsmen to get them over the line. Then the experienced pair of Mohammad Nabi and Samiullah Shenwari played some big strokes and brought the margin to 12 off 10 deliveries. However, that is when their passion and exuberance got better off them, and Nabi played an irresponsible stroke to get out just then. It was always going to be difficult for a new man to play Mustafizur Rahman and that is exactly what transpired in the last over. In the end, Afghanistan fell short by 3 runs.

India doesn’t seem to be having any such problems so far in the tournament. Their opening batsmen Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have been so dominant that only way they look like getting out is via a runout. Despite their heroics, the job is being done by their bowlers. The class of Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal have come to the fore in every game. All of them have struck in one game or the other and never allowed their oppositions to get away.

India might also decide to rest some of their key men for this encounter as they have already made it to the final. Likes of Khaleel Ahmed, Deepak Chahar and KL Rahul might get a look in place of Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Shikhar Dhawan. Afghanistan may also decide to rest some of their key players as there have been back to back games.

India and Afghanistan will play each other in their last Super Four game. India has already qualified for the Final courtesy their two dominant wins over Bangladesh and Pakistan in the Super Four. Afghanistan, on the other hand, is out of the contention because of their two narrow losses against Pakistan and Bangladesh. The Final of Asia Cup will be played on 28th September. The other finalist is yet to be decided and the result of the game between Pakistan and Bangladesh on 26th September will tell us about which team India are going to face in the Final.

India has won their games both by batting first and second. However, their tendency has been to bat second as the pitch gets easier to bat under lights. They might decide to challenge their batting before the final and bat first on winning the toss. Afghanistan on the other hand like to bat first and they might decide to stick with that.

Pitches have been tough to bat in the first innings while gradually easing out under the lights. It is once again expected to play in a similar manner. Conditions are expected to be dry and hot.

India will be the overwhelming favourite to win this game. However, Afghanistan would like to finish the tournament with at least one more victory. The only thing that can make India vulnerable is if they decide to rest some of their key players and Afghanistan can expose their middle order early.
