Very seldom does a series get back to life nowadays once one team takes the lead of 2-0 at the start of the series. That is one of the perils of modern day cricket. However, this Indian side is not the one which will take it lying down. They have the tendency to fight back when one doesn’t expect them to. They showed it against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka, against South Africa in South Africa this year and now again against England in England.

India was staring down the barrel after the Lord’s test match. Names were being called, 5-0 humiliation was on the card. But just then they turned back and bounced back like very few expected them to. To win the Test match at Trent Bridge when opposition captain had sent them to bat first under the clouds against the class bowlers like James Anderson and Stuart Broad was something. Ajinkya Rahane and Virat Kohli took them to a par score but not an invincible one.

Then it was that man who was becoming the centre of attraction for the wrong reasons, Hardik Pandya. It just took him 6 overs to rock England’s ship and within the blink of an eye, England was all-out in 38 overs! From there on it was just a matter of India seizing the advantage and not letting it go.

They did exactly that. With a very fluent opening partnership between Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul followed by good old reliable innings by Pujara and stupendous innings by Virat Kohli, they reached a score of 352 for 7 which meant the lead of 521. They declared on that score and nipped out top 4 of England in no time. Then came the partnership of Jos Butler and Ben Stokes who stalled India’s progress for some time but soon their hopes were dashed by a brutal spell from Jasprit Bumrah.

The win in Trent Bridge will be remembered as one of the finest in India’s cricketing history. However, the series is still alive. England will come back very hard at them. Very few sides manage to win test matches against England in England let alone the series. History is against India but who can write them off after what they did in the third test match.

India will play England in what will be the fourth match of the series. It was on this ground that the downslide for a confident India began in their last tour of England. After winning the Lord’s test match they couldn’t quite capitalize on that momentum and lost the game here by a huge margin of 266 runs. However, circumstances this time are different. India began by competing well in the first game only to lose embarrassingly in the second game at Lord’s. They are back on track now after getting on the right side of the result at Trent Bridge and they have the opportunity again to build on that momentum at Southampton.

Winning the toss and choosing to field first backfired for England in the third test. Considering that and the fact the due to the heat wave the pitches have generally been dry in England. If that’s the case then sides will choose to bat first. Unless of course if it rains like it did in London at Lord’s during and before the game then it will be a no-brainer to field first.

Pitch at the Rose bowl is typical English pitch with something in it for bowlers throughout the game. Batsmen too can enjoy their time post the initial struggle. If it doesn’t rain in the build-up to the game, the sides will prefer to bat first. Otherwise, it will be good to field first considering the moisture, to begin with.

England will still be the favourites to win the game. Considering it’s their home ground and they don’t generally lose a series at home. They are expected to come hard at the Indians after a poor show. However, don’t completely rule out the Indians. They have tasted blood now and will do anything to turn the tide in their favour. We are in for a good game. We are going with England as our winner, followed by Indian victory and ultimately Draw in that order as our prediction for this game.
