It is probably going to be the biggest games of the life for various Hong Kong’s cricketers. India is considered to be the powerhouse of International cricket and given their schedule it’s not often that teams like Hong Kong get to play against them. Hence, with no guarantee of when they will get to play India again its imperative that Hong Kong makes the most of this opportunity.

It is not necessarily about winning for Hong Kong but just sharing the stage with likes of MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah who must have been heroes of many Hong Kong players will be a dream come true for them. However, like we saw in their first game against Pakistan they will have to avoid getting overawed by the opposition. They began well with Anshuman Rath and Nizakat Khan looking good, but the innings was disrupted soon due to the carelessness of Nizakat while running. They couldn’t quite recover from that setback.

Hong Kong also struggled against the spin bowling of Shahdab Khan, they struggled to pick his googlies and leg spin. Bad news for Hong Kong is that more spin is in store for them against India as well. The spin twin of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav has been doing well everywhere and in conditions suited to spin bowling, they will be an even bigger threat. Hong Kong, therefore, must look to begin well against the pacers first and then gradually start well against the spin.

India, on the other hand, would like to begin well before gaining the momentum in the tournament. They will be without their biggest superstar and skipper Virat Kohli so the responsibility of batting will have to be taken by the entire batting order. The experienced duo of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan will have to take extra responsibility of scoring runs and batting through the innings.

The absence of Virat also brings the opportunity to the likes of Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav, KL Rahul and Ambati Rayudu to seal that number 4 spot. That spot has been up for grabs for a long time now with no one really making it their own. On this occasion at least two of these players can get a chance in the playing eleven.

On the bowling front, considering the fact that India will be playing two games on two consecutive days it might just be the case that they decide to rest Bumrah for the first game. This might lead to the opportunity for Shardul Thakur.

India will begin their Asia Cup campaign by taking on Hong Kong in their first game of the tournament. It will be the second game for Hong Kong. It will be the first tournament for India after returning from a long and tough tour of England. Post this game on the very next day India will clash with their arch-rival Pakistan which unarguably is the most anticipated clash of the tournament. India’s full-time captain Virat Kohli has been rested for this tournament and in his absence, Rohit Sharma will be leading the side.

So far in this tournament teams batting first have won one game while team chasing has won one game. The pitch hasn’t provided too much lateral movement but has provided a good bounce to the bowlers. Teams can trust the pitch and opt to bat second considering the records of teams winning percentage while chasing on this ground.

Pitch has been good for both batsmen and bowlers because of the true bounce it has provided. It has also assisted spinners with some turn in both the games. Batsmen haven’t really made their mark with low scores in both the games so far but as Mushfiqur showed it is possible to get a big one here if one is ready to be patient and apply themselves.

India will begin as strong favourites for this game. However, more than the result they would want their players to acclimatize well in this Dubai heat. It would be important for bowlers and batsmen who get chance to prepare well before the big game against Pakistan.
