Cricket Match Preview:
It was a surprise Diwali gift for the crowd of Guwahati before actual Diwali, thanks to the grand batting display by Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. They were also treated to some very refreshing approach by a young West Indies batsman Shimron Hetmyer, who scored a majestic hundred to give West Indies a good score while batting first.
It was not all smooth, to begin with though. West Indies gave a much-improved performance while batting first in a format, which suits their players much more than the longer format. They began with a customary stutter when Chandrapaul Hemraj was dismissed cheaply. Both Keiron Powell and Shai Hope both played a good hand before being dismissed.
Guwahati was hosting its first ever ODI and they did not disappoint the large crowd in the stadium. They provided the perfect ODI pitch where the batsmen could play the shots on the up. This was shown by the pair of Rovman Powell and Shimron Hetmyer briefly first and in bigger fashion by Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, both of whom scored their 20th and 36th ODI cricket hundreds respectively.
The beautiful batting performances invariably come at a cost though and in India, it mostly comes at the cost of the bowlers. None of the bowlers, barring Yuzvendra Chahal, managed to make a mark in the first game of cricket. Every other bowler from both sides went the distance and that trend is expected to continue right through this tour now. Only the bowlers with some guile, variation and brave heart will be able to stop the run flow.
Cricket Match Information:
India will take on West Indies in the second ODI of the ODI cricket series. India won the first game of cricket handsomely by 8 wickets and took the lead in the 5 ODI series by 1-0. West Indies would not like to fall too much behind in the series and hence, that makes this game very important.
Probable XI (Our Prediction):
India are a side who does not like to make the changes unless necessary. Our prediction is that they will continue with the same eleven for the sake of continuity. However, if any change can be expected, it is Kuldeep Yadav in place of any pacers.
Here is our prediction of India’s playing XI:
- Rohit Sharma
- Shikhar Dhawan
- Virat Kohli
- Rishabh Pant
- MS Dhoni
- Ambati Rayudu
- Ravindra Jadeja
- Kuldeep Yadav
- Yuzvendra Chahal
- Umesh Yadav
- Mohammad Shami/Kuldeep Yadav
Probable XI (Our Prediction):
West Indies gave a good account of themselves in the first cricket game, especially with the bat. Their bowlers still would like to improve their performance by a margin if they want to win any game. Our prediction is that they will continue with the same eleven as the first game.
Here is our prediction of West Indies’s playing XI:
- Chandrapaul Hemraj
- KOA Powell
- Shai Hope
- SO Hetmyer
- Marlon Samuels
- Rovman Powell
- Jason Holder
- Devendra Bishoo
- Ashley Nurse
- O Thomas
- Kemar Roach
Cricket Statistics and Prediction:
Marlon Samuels is the most experienced player of West Indies cricket team. He played his 200th game in the first ODI but failed to score a run. He has had good performances against India in India and would like to repeat that in what could be his last trip to India. Our prediction is to expect a good performance from him in this game.
Cricket Match Conditions and Pitch:
It was on this ground that MS Dhoni took his first big step to greatness through his knock of 148 against the arch-rivals Pakistan back in 2005. A lot has changed since then. In the last ODI played here between India and Sri Lanka, a score of 219 was easily chased down by India. It is usually a good batting pitch in Vizag and our prediction is of another high scoring cricket game. Conditions are expected to be dry.
India will be firm favourites for the second ODI. Our prediction is another victory for India and the only chance West Indies have is if they win the toss and chase the total set by India. West Indies bowling looks thin and does not seem penetrative enough.
Top Batsman (Prediction):
Shikhar Dhawan (IND) – 100+ runs
Top Bowler (Prediction):
Yuzvendra Chahal (IND) – 3 or more wickets
Most Sixes (Prediction):
Rishabh Pant (IND)
India – 1.08
West Indies – 6.85
