Cricket Match Preview:
After playing a solitary ODI International cricket game against England, Ireland will host the tri-nation tournament against West Indies and Bangladesh. The first cricket game of the series will be played between Ireland and West Indies. While Ireland have missed out on the World Cup spot due to ICC’s policy of only top ten teams qualifying for the biggest tournament, West Indies are going to be an underdog in the tournament scheduled to begin in a few weeks’ time.
Ireland and West Indies, along with a few other teams, had to undergo an intense qualifying tournament in 2018. From all the teams playing in the tournament, only West Indies and Afghanistan qualified for the World Cup, leading to heartbreak for the likes of Ireland, Zimbabwe and Scotland. In their game against each other, West Indies beat Ireland by 52 runs and helped their cause in the tournament.
However, a lot has changed for West Indies since then. Buoyed by the form of Chris Gayle at the top of the order and the inspiring leadership of Jason Holder, West Indies are looking very dangerous now and no team will look to underestimate them at the World Cup. Amidst this, Ireland will have their task cut out against their powerful batting lineup.
Ireland drew level the series against Afghanistan played in the month of March in Dehra Dun. It was a good series for a talented side who have just slipped under the radar after the initial highs of the World Cup in 2011. Their bowling has not been great and all their main players are nudging the wrong side of 30. It is important for the other young players of Ireland to step up just to make the transition gradual.
West Indies, on the other hand, are coming off a drawn ODI cricket series against the best team in the world, England. It was a no mean achievement for a side who has been under scrutiny for almost two decades now.
Cricket Match Information:
