Cricket Match Preview:

The Big Bash League will continue on the second day with the cricket game between Melbourne Renegades and Perth Scorchers. Both teams were the semifinalists of last year’s Big Bash League but both failed to move further in the tournament. This time, both would like to go two steps further and end up as the winner of the cricket tournament.

Melbourne Renegades especially would like to go the distance as they are one of those teams in the tournament who have not yet won the tournament. They have managed to reach the semifinals twice so far but have not gone through to the final as yet. Perth Scorchers, on the other hand, are hands down the most successful side of the league as they remain the only side who have won the tournament twice.

Renegades will be without their permanent skipper Aaron Finch for the initial part of the tournament as he is part of Australia’s test cricket team. In his absence, the experienced Cameron White is expected to lead the side. He will have a tough task on his hand but he has the arsenal to do the goods for him. On the other hand, Perth Scorchers will be led by all-rounder Mitch Marsh. He will have his task cut out as he will not have some of his experienced players like his brother Shaun Marsh unavailable for him.

Perth Scorchers have been the winner of Big Bash League twice and they have also been the runners-up on two occasions. With such grand legacy, it will not be easy for new skipper Mitch Marsh to make an impact. He is replacing now retired Adam Voges and he will also have to fight the perception about his current form. Another important decision will be whether Scorchers decide to play the controversial Cameron Bancroft, who has been included in the squad after the infamous ball-tampering incident in South Africa.

Cricket Match Information:

Two semifinalists of last year, Melbourne Renegades and Perth Scorchers, will take on each other in their first cricket game of this edition of Big Bash League. Both teams finished on third and first position in the group stage respectively last year.

Melbourne Renegades

Probable XI (Our Prediction):

Melbourne Renegades will be led by Cameron White in the absence of Aaron Finch. They fell short of the spot in the final by one run in the semifinal of last year’s Big Bash League. Our prediction is since they will be without two West Indies stars Dwayne Bravo and Keiron Pollard, they will go with Mohammad Nabi and Dan Christian as their all-rounder.

Here is our prediction of Melbourne Renegades’ playing XI:

  • Cameron White
  • MS Harris
  • TP Ludeman
  • TLW Cooper
  • JD WIldermuth
  • Dan Christian
  • Mohammad Nabi
  • JM Mennie
  • CP Tremain
  • JM Holland
  • Usman Shinwari

Perth Scorchers

Probable XI (Our Prediction):

Perth Scorchers will be led by Mitch Marsh in this edition of Big Bash League. They will be without their one of the most experienced players, Shaun Marsh, as he is part of the Australian cricket test team. Our prediction is they will try to cover for his loss by including Cameron Bancroft in the playing eleven.

Here is our prediction of Perth Scorchers’ playing XI:

  • M Clinger
  • Cameron Bancroft
  • Mitch Marsh
  • AJ Turner
  • HWR Cartwright
  • Ashton Agar
  • David Willey
  • Nathan Coulter-nile
  • JP Behrendorff
  • C Green
  • JP Inglis

Cricket Statistics and Prediction:

Mohammad Nabi is one of the superstars of Afghanistan cricket. In the absence of Dwayne Bravo, he will be expected to play the role of an all-rounder. Our prediction is he will prove to be useful as an all-rounder in the first cricket game of Renegades.

Cricket Match Conditions and Pitch:

It will be the first T20 cricket game on this ground. The last international cricket game played here was between Australia and South Africa all the way back in 2006. It will be interesting to see how the pitch plays. Our prediction is of 160 runs which should prove to be competitive. Conditions are expected to be dry.

Our Prediction:

Melbourne Renegades will begin the cricket game as favourites. Perth Scorchers have relatively less experienced lineup and that will prove to be the key in their first cricket game. Hence, our prediction is of Melbourne Renegades’ victory.

Top Batsman (Prediction):

Cameron White (MR) – 50+ runs

Top Bowler (Prediction):

Mohammad Nabi (MR) – 2 or more wickets
