Cricket Match Preview:
Cape Town Blitz’s unbeaten run came to an end after four consecutive victories. Paarl Rocks, led by Faf du Plessis, beat them comfortably by 5 wickets in the last game of cricket. Nelson Mandela Bay Giants, on the other hand, continued their winning march as they defeated Tshwane Spartans by D/L method.
Cape Town Blitz had looked unstoppable so far in the first edition of Mzansi Super League. Their batting, comprising of International cricket stars like Quinton de Kock, skipper Farhan Behardien and Pakistan’s Asif Ali, had been in good form coming into the game against Paarl Rocks. However, due to some good captaincy by Faf du Plessis and quality bowling by BC Fortuin and D Paterson, Blitz never got going and got all out for 140 runs in 20 overs.
Apart from a solid batting lineup, Blitz also consists of fine bowling unit. The presence of great Dale Steyn had made it difficult for opposition openers to get going. In this game of cricket, Steyn struck twice by dismissing the Paarl’s openers within a couple of deliveries. But the sensible approach of skipper Faf du Plessis and other middle order batsmen made sure that Paarl reached their target comfortably.
Giants, on the other hand, could not have asked for better timing from the rains. Giants struggled their way to 143 runs in 20 overs as none of their batsmen managed to hang in at the crease apart from opener Marais. Spartans could not have gotten a better opportunity to get back to winning ways, but their top order batting let them down again. They knew that the rain was around, and wickets were of premium but they lost two wickets including that of AB de Villiers in space of 3 deliveries. As luck would have it, rain started pouring post that and Spartans were short by 7 runs according to D/L method.
If Giants can win this game of cricket against the Cape Town Blitz, they will move to the first spot on the points table and will lead to the more shake-up in the points table.
