Cricket Match Preview:
After the tremendous success in the test series against Pakistan in UAE, New Zealand are now back in their home conditions and will take on Sri Lanka in the first cricket test match. For Sri Lanka, it will set the tone for their very long away calendar in which they travel to New Zealand, Australia and South Africa post that.
New Zealand were outstanding in UAE. After returning from a long gap, their side performed exceptionally well in conditions that are very difficult for visiting sides. After winning the first cricket test match by 4 runs, they lost the second game against Pakistan only to come back and beat them in the final test match.
They are now back in their home conditions, where they played their last series earlier this year against England. New Zealand emerged as victorious then and created a lot of problems for Joe Root’s side. The visiting side Sri Lanka are in lots of problems themselves. They have had a dry run of games, where wins just have not come. They are coming here from the hard-hitting loss against England at home.
Perhaps away from home in a much-relaxed atmosphere, Sri Lanka might play their best cricket. Very few people are expecting them to win and that gives them the opportunity to make a name for themselves and also get back to winning ways, keeping in mind the upcoming cricket World Cup that will be played in a few months’ time in England.
But like all the away tours, New Zealand is not the easiest place to win games for visiting teams. The grass on the pitch is enough to make sides nervous as even a Colin de Grandhomme is expected to be lethal on such pitches, let alone the fabulous duo of Trent Boult and Tim Southee.
Cricket Match Information:
Sri Lanka’s tour of New Zealand will begin with the first cricket test match, which will be played at Wellington. It will be the first test match out of the two-match cricket series. This cricket game marks the beginning of Sri Lanka’s away tours, which will continue from here to Australia and then South Africa.
Probable XI (Our Prediction):
Sri Lanka had a miserable home cricket series against England, where they were clean swept by the visiting side. They have lots of changes in their support staff since then and if they do not play well here, those changes might trickle down to the team as well. Our prediction is of a few changes in their lineup since their last test match against England.
Here is our prediction of Sri Lanka’s playing XI:
- MD Gunathalika
- FDM Karunaratne
- Dinesh Chandimal
- Kusal Mendis
- Angelo Matthews
- DM de Silva
- Niroshan Dickwella
- RAS Lakmal
- Dilruwan Perera
- PADLR Sandakan
- CBRLS Kumara
Probable XI (Our Prediction):
New Zealand had a wonderful cricket test series against Pakistan in UAE. They have made some changes in their lineup from their last test match but the core group of the side remains the same. Our prediction is of a similar side to their last cricket game.
Here is our prediction of New Zealand’s playing XI:
- Jeet Raval
- Tom Latham
- Kane Williamson
- Ross Taylor
- Henry Nicholls
- Colin de Grandhomme
- BJ Watling
- Tim Southee
- AY Patel
- Trent Boult
- Neil Wagner
Cricket Statistics and Prediction:
Trent Boult is going to be threatening in home conditions. He has been troubling every visiting side for some time now. Our prediction is he is going to produce a match-winning performance.
Cricket Match Conditions and Pitch:
The last cricket test match played at Wellington was between West Indies and New Zealand. New Zealand won that game of cricket easily, thanks to the 7-wicket haul for Neil Wagner in first innings. Our prediction is of a tough first inning condition followed by easier conditions.
New Zealand will begin the series as favourites. Sri Lanka have not managed to beat them in the last 5 games of cricket as far as test cricket is concerned. Considering their recent plight, it does not look likely as well. Hence, our prediction is of a New Zealand victory in the first cricket test match.

Kane Williamson (NZ) – 50+ runs

Trent Boult (NZ) – 4 or more wickets
