Cricket Match Preview:
After losing the T20 series by 3-0, New Zealand were slightly better in the ODI cricket series against Pakistan. They won the first ODI and lost the second one. However, even New Zealand’s hardcore supporter will admit that New Zealand got lucky with the rain in the third cricket ODI when the game was abandoned. Hence, this test series presents itself with a wonderful opportunity for New Zealand to win the series in the desert.
The last time New Zealand played the test cricket was back in April this year when they played against England at home. New Zealand won the two-match series then by 1-0. However, this long layoff would have surely led to some rust among the test specialists. Players like Neil Wagner, Jeet Raval and BJ Watling have a tough task on their hands to first acclimatize to the conditions and then get their form going straightaway against a tough opponent.
Pakistan, on the other hand, have gone from one pillar of success to another in the last few months. They have had a pretty successful time at home as they sent Australia home without a single victory in their kitty and then only allowing New Zealand to win one game of cricket so far on this tour. Pakistan had a shocking draw against Australia when their bowlers could not bowl out Australia on the final day. But Pakistan learnt from it and smashed Australia in the next cricket game.
New Zealand know that Pakistan rarely lose the series at home, but they also know what it takes to at least draw the series in UAE. The last time New Zealand were here was back in 2014 when they managed to draw the cricket series coming back from the loss in the very first game. That series was played under the shadow of unfortunate demise of Australian cricket under Philip Hughes while New Zealand, under Brendon McCullum, displayed admirable cricketing spirit and skills to draw level the series.
Cricket Match Information:
Another tough cricket series awaits New Zealand as they take on Pakistan in the first test match at Abu Dhabi. It is going to be a three-match test series. Pakistan won the test series against Australia one month ago and they would want to repeat the feat against New Zealand as well.
Probable XI (Our Prediction):
Pakistan’s bowling, led by Mohammad Abbas, has gone from strength to strength in recent times. They bowled brilliantly against Australia and also their batting clicked collectively in both test matches. Our prediction is of the same eleven that played against Australia in the 2nd test match.
Here is our prediction of Pakistan’s playing XI:
- Mohammad Hafeez
- Fakhar Zaman
- Azhar Ali
- Babar Azam
- Harris Sohail
- Sarfraz Ahmed
- Asad Shafiq
- Bilal Asif
- Yasir Shah
- Shahdab Khan
- Mohammad Abbas
Probable XI (Our Prediction):
New Zealand will get the services of their test specialists back as we will see the return of the likes of Neil Wagner, BJ Watling and Jeet Raval. Our prediction is they will go with the same lineup that played the second cricket test match against England in April.
Here is our prediction of New Zealand’s playing XI:
- Jeet Raval
- Kane Williamson
- Tom Latham
- Ross Taylor
- Colin De Grandhomme
- HM Nichols
- BJ Watling
- Ish Sodhi
- Tim Southee
- Trent Boult
- Neil Wagner
Cricket Statistics and Prediction:
Mohammad Abbas has been one of the, if not the very best bowler in the world. His skills have been exceptional especially in this format of the cricket game. His ability to get the ball to do something even on most barren wickets has not gone unnoticed around the world. Our prediction is of another successful cricket game and series for him.
Cricket Match Conditions and Pitch:
Abu Dhabi surfaces change its nature dramatically after the first couple of days of the game. When New Zealand were here the last time, they made the most of it as they made 690 runs in reply to Pakistan’s 351. They know that the first innings runs will be critical as nothing is easy in the 3rd and 4th innings.
Pakistan will undoubtedly begin the game and series as favourites. But New Zealand have surprised them in the past and they may do it again if Pakistan take them lightly.
Top Batsman (Prediction):
Mohammad Hafeez (PAK) – 100+ runs
Top Bowler (Prediction):
Mohammad Abbas (PAK) – 4 or more wickets
Most Sixes (Prediction):
Colin de Grandhomme (NZ)
Pakistan – 1.62
Draw – 4.80
New Zealand – 3.65
