Team B: New Zealand
Team A Captain: Sarfraz Ahmed
Team B Captain: Kane Williamson
Cricket Match Preview:
Pakistan’s struggle in the ODI format continued as they lost the first ODI cricket match by the margin of 47 runs. It was their 12th consecutive loss to the Kiwi side. After the debacle of Asia Cup, the pressure is mounting on skipper Sarfraz Ahmed and coach Mickie Arthur to get things in order before the cricket world cup next year.
New Zealand, meanwhile, seem to have got their groove back after failing to win any game in the T20 series. They got the services of Tom Latham and Trent Boult back for this series and both men were the critical factor behind their victory in the second ODI. While Tom Latham resurrected the New Zealand innings with Ross Taylor after they were struggling for 78 for 3 at one stage, Trent Boult wreaked havoc at the start of Pakistani batting as he picked up the hattrick. Pakistan could never recover from that start.
Compared to the T20 format where Pakistani bowling does not allow opposition to hit them out of the park, the ODI cricket format allows opposition to stay patient and target bowlers. Pakistan found that out when Latham and Taylor had a wonderful partnership despite early wickets. New Zealand looked set for even a bigger total but Shahdab Khan’s 3 wickets in 4 deliveries stopped them briefly.
Pakistan’s batting is also struggling to come to terms with modern day cricket as the man who was responsible for their victory in Champions Trophy, Fakhar Zaman, is out of nick at the moment. No other batsman seems capable to bat at a rate that is the need of the hour in today’s cricket. New Zealand is likely to target them on that front and if they can once again score over 250, they will be tough to beat.
Cricket Match Information:
Pakistan and New Zealand will take on each other in the second ODI of the three-match cricket series. New Zealand won the first game of cricket in a convincing manner by 47 runs. If they can win one more game, they will win the series.
Probable XI (Our Prediction):
Pakistan’s bowling performed well in the first cricket game despite New Zealand’s 266 runs on the board. However, it is their batting that needs to regroup and start scoring freely. The likes of Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez will have to take extra responsibility of run scoring.
Here is our prediction of Pakistan’s playing XI:
- Mohammad Hafeez
- Fakhar Zaman
- Babar Azam
- Shoaib Malik
- Sarfraz Ahmed
- Imad Wasim
- Hasan Ali
- Shaheen Afridi
- Shahdab Khan
- Junaid Khan
Probable XI (Our Prediction):
New Zealand were buoyed by the comeback of Tom Latham and Trent Boult in their lineup. Both were responsible for the win in the first game. They would like an improvement in their opening partnership as they cannot let Pakistan pick up early wickets in every game of cricket. Our prediction is of the same lineup as the previous game.
Here is our prediction of New Zealand’s playing XI:
- GH Worker
- Colin Munro
- Kane Williamson
- Tom Latham
- Ross Taylor
- Colin De Grandhomme
- HM Nichols
- Lockie Ferguson
- Ish Sodhi
- Tim Southee
- Trent Boult
Cricket Statistics and Prediction:
Ross Taylor was one of the reasons why New Zealand managed to make a comeback in the first cricket game. However, with the controversy surrounding him and Mohammad Hafeez, the pressure will be on him to score again once he walks out to bat.
Cricket Match Conditions and Pitch:
Abu Dhabi surfaces are not known to be high scoring cricket ground. The winning runs have proved to be around the mark of 250-275 runs. In the first game, 266 proved to be enough for New Zealand. Our prediction is of a similar score in the second cricket ODI as well. Conditions are expected to be dry.
New Zealand will begin the second ODI as a favourite. Their professional show in the first ODI and Pakistan’s continuous struggle in ODI cricket format is the reason behind our prediction of New Zealand’s victory.
Top Batsman (Prediction):
Ross Taylor (NZ) – 50+ runs
Top Bowler (Prediction):
Shahdab Khan (PAK) – 2 or more wickets
Most Sixes (Prediction):
Colin de Grandhomme (NZ)
Pakistan – 1.68
New Zealand – 2.05
