Somerset and Nottinghamshire game could very well be decided by the fact, who out bats whom. When a side which has the highest score of 229 in the tournament takes on the side that has the highest score 219 what else can be expected? While Somerset has three scores of over 200 in the tournament, Nottinghamshire have two scores of over 200. Fair to say anything under 200 in the quarterfinals will be considered as an underperformance.

In the last 3 games played between the two sides, Somerset have defeated the Notts on 2 occasions while the most recent game was won by Nottinghamshire. Notts will also take the confidence from the fact that not only did Somerset lose their last game against Kent, they lost it by conceding 231 runs. This shows there is a chink in the armoury of Somerset and it’s their bowling.

The bowling line-up consisting of Max Waller, Jamie Overton and Jerome Taylor will have to do a lot more if Somerset is looking to go further in the tournament. While Max Waller has been the pick of the bowler by picking up 14 wickets at just an economy rate of just 6.43 Somerset will like others to step up and support him in their endeavour. Their batting, however, has been in an absolutely smashing form which is bolstered by the fact that they nearly chased down the total of Kent and fell short by just 5 runs!

Their batting has been led by New Zealand’s Corey Anderson who has scored more than 400 runs at a strike rate of 174. Lewis Gregory has led them from the front by not only scored 261 runs at an unbelievable strike rate of 210 but also picking up 15 wickets. Somerset would be hoping the dream run of their captain continues.

Nottinghamshire, on the other hand, is amidst a fantastic run. One in which they won three on the trot. Daniel Christian has led from the front by scoring 413 runs at a spectacular strike rate of 175. He has also been wonderfully supported by Tom Moores who has scored 409 runs as well as a healthy strike rate of 143. They will also be buoyed by the presence of Alex Hales.

Their bowling too is in wonderful hands with Harry Gurney picking up 20 wickets in 14 games at an economy of 7.33 and International star Ish Sodhi picking up 18 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 8 for a spinner. They would be hoping in an era of leg-spinner their own makes the killer blow at this stage of the tournament.

Side with the maximum number of wins in the Vitality Blast, South group’s Somerset will face the number fourth team of the North group, Nottinghamshire. Not only did Somerset win the most number games they were also the group topper of the South group by the margin of 2 games. They had 10 victories out of 14 games while the second team of South group, Kent had 8 wins out of 14 games. On the other hand, Nottinghamshire went through to the knockout stage by winning 8 games out of 14. They won three consecutive games on the trot to finish in the top 4.

It has been a mixed bag at Taunton. While teams batting first have won 4 games out of 7 the side batting first has won 3 times. With the weather expected to be clear it gives a headache to captains on what to do after winning the toss. Our prediction is side winning the toss would like to chase considering both these sides have some big hitting finishers at the death.

Pitch has been great for batting at Taunton and it is expected to be the same. Weather is likely to be clear for the game.

While Somerset has all the bases covered but Nottingham can surprise them come to the quarterfinals. Their bowling is slightly better than Somerset and that could play a big role on a day which is likely to be decided by batting might. Hence, we are going with Nottinghamshire as our prediction for the game.

Who will Win? – Nottinghamshire
Top Batsman (Runs Scored) – 50+, Alex Hales
