Cricket Match Preview:

It was not meant to be like this for South Africa. Not at this stage at least. As per the past World Cup, they were supposed to be invincible at this stage of the competition only to crash out in the knockout stage. However, it seems to have all unravelled a bit too quickly for them on this occasion. West Indies, on the other hand, despite the loss in their last cricket game, have impressed one and all and one gets the feeling that they are not done yet.

With their loss against India, South Africa lost their first three cricket games in this World Cup. They began reasonably well against England with the ball in the opening game, only to fall away with the bat. Then a shock came their way in the game against Bangladesh. South Africa floundered with the ball and conceded 330 runs against them. They failed to chase the total and lost two in two.

The wheels then truly came off when it was found that Dale Steyn could not recover from his injury and was out of the tournament. That was the second blow to the South African team after an injury to another pacer, Lungi Ngidi. Any team, no matter how good they are, will find it difficult to deal with those kinds of blows. To make matters worse, there was another controversy related to AB de Villiers and it all seems a bit too difficult for skipper Faf du Plessis at this stage.

West Indies are exactly playing like how South Africa are not at this stage. Free-spirited, fearless and charismatic cricket. While this is not quite 70s and 80s, when they used to completely dominate the cricket circle, it is not a blip either. West Indies have been showing signs of recovery for the past year or so with some signs of things to come. They have an exciting batting core group and their bowling also bodes of fire of yesteryears. In Oshane Thomas, Sheldon Cottrell and even injury-prone Andre Russell, they have a trio of pacers, who are really testing the opposition batting lineup.

It is going to be a lot tighter cricket game than everybody was expecting earlier and if South Africa do not improve drastically, they are in for another rude shock against West Indies.

Cricket Match Information:

South Africa will take on West Indies in their fourth cricket game of the World Cup 2019. So far, South Africa have played three cricket games and lost all of them, whereas West Indies have played two cricket games of which they have won one and lost one. Each side is required to play nine cricket games and four teams with the maximum number of wins will qualify for the next round.

South Africa

Probable XI (Our Prediction):

South Africa are being led by Faf du Plessis in the World Cup. Our prediction is of the inclusion of Dwaine Pretorius in the playing eleven instead of Tabrez Shamsi.

Here is our prediction of South Africa’s playing XI:

  • Quinton de Kock
  • Faf du Plessis
  • Hashim Amla
  • HE van der Dussen
  • David Miller
  • JP Duminy
  • Andile Phehlukwayo
  • Kagiso Rabada
  • Imran Tahir
  • Dale Steyn
  • Dwaine Pretorius

West Indies

Probable XI (Our Prediction):

West Indies are being led by inspirational Jason Holder. West Indies were beaten in a close game against Australia in their last cricket game. Our prediction is of the same lineup that played in that cricket game.

Here is our prediction of West Indies’ playing XI:

  • Shai Hope
  • Chris Gayle
  • Shimron Hetmyer
  • Evin Lewis
  • Nicholas Pooran
  • Sheldon Cottrell
  • Ashley Nurse
  • Carlos Brathwaite
  • Oshane Thomas
  • Andre Russell
  • Jason Holder

Cricket Statistics and Prediction:

Quinton de Kock has not fired yet for South Africa in the competition and it is hurting them big time. If he does not have a good game again, it will be problematic for South Africa. Our prediction is of a big knock from him in this cricket game.

Cricket Match Conditions and Pitch:

The last international ODI cricket game played here was between South Africa and India recently. India won that cricket game by six wickets after chasing down 227 runs. This pitch is known to be full of runs. Hence, our prediction is of the score of around 300 once again. Conditions are expected to be cold and windy.

Our Prediction:

West Indies will begin this game of cricket as favourites. It has not always been that way especially in the last decade, but the way West Indies have performed so far, our prediction is of West Indies’ win.

Top Batsman (Prediction):

Chris Gayle (WI) – 50+ runs

Top Bowler (Prediction):

Chris Morris (SA) – 2 or more wickets

Most Sixes (Prediction):

Chris Gayle (WI)
