Cricket Match Preview:
In the second ODI at 92 for 6, South Africa would have been anxious. Their fear of their inexperienced batting line up cracking under pressure was becoming a reality. In the absence of their regular openers, Quinton De Kock and Hashim Amla, the new pair of Dean Elgar and Aiden Markram once again failed to provide them with the good start.
Their middle order in the absence of recently retired AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis began to crumble on a yet another spicy pitch. At 101 for 7, South Africa had lost their skipper and the chances of an upset were pretty high. But just then, Dale Steyn made a comeback and Andile Phehlukwayo stitched together a partnership and took South Africa to a total where they could fight in a cricket game.
Zimbabwe in reply of 198 never looked like winning. They probably felt they let South Africa off the hook in the first innings. They should not have got more than 150 on a pitch that offered too much to bowlers. As a result, because of the consistent bowling by South African bowlers, they got dismissed for a paltry 78 and a match that looked like an exciting cricket game in the first innings came to a rapid conclusion.
The first two cricket games have shown the vulnerability of this South African lineup, but it has also shown the gap between the class of an inexperienced South African side and a near first choice Zimbabwean side. In both games, Zimbabwe have had their moments but failed to capitalize. Their main issue has been their batting, which has not been comfortable at all on some of the toughest pitches in recent times. Their bowlers, too, have not been clinical enough to finish off the innings. They would look at the third and final ODI to play a complete cricket game and, if they do so, they might end up on the right side of the result.
Cricket Match Information:
South Africa and Zimbabwe will take on each other in the third ODI at Paarl. It will be the third and final ODI between the two sides. South Africa have already won the series by winning the first two ODIs. The ODI series will be followed by the three-match T20 International series.
Probable XI (Our Prediction):
South Africa were very good with the ball in the first game and a bit erratic with bat. In the second ODI, their batting struggled again but their bowlers were brilliant. They should give another chance to the same line up and our prediction is there will not be any change for this game, barring an injury.
Here is our prediction of South Africa’s playing XI:
- Aiden Markram
- Dean Elgar
- R Hendricks
- Henrich Klassen
- C Jonker
- Jean Paul Duminy
- K Zondo
- A Phehlukwayo
- Dale Steyn
- Imran Tahir
- L Ngidi
Probable XI (Our Prediction):
Zimbabwe have been largely competitive in this series, but they have not played consistently good cricket for 100 overs. As a result, they have lost the series. Looking at the future, however, this is their best side and they should stick with them. Hence, our prediction is that they will not bring any change to their line up.
Here is our prediction of Zimbabwe’s playing XI:
- H Masakadza
- SF Mire
- CR Ervine
- Brendon Taylor
- SC Williams
- PJ Moor
- Elton Chigumbura
- DT Tiripano
- B Mavuta
- KM Jarvis
- TL Chatara
Cricket Statistics and Prediction:
Dean Elgar has been a very good test opener for South Africa over the years but have not quite established himself as an ODI player. This is his last opportunity in all probability before the big guns return hence, our prediction is that he might produce good innings in the third ODI.
Cricket Match Conditions and Pitch:
Both pitches in this series have been tough for run scoring so far. It might change here at Paarl and we may finally get to see a huge total. Hence, our prediction is if South Africa bat first, we might get to see the first 300 total of the series.
South Africa, despite not being at their best, have easily been the better side. They are strong favourites yet again to win the game in the third ODI. Our prediction is to expect another huge South African win.
