Cricket Match Preview:
Another five testing days of cricket await Sri Lanka. They will be without their permanent skipper Dinesh Chandimal in this test match as he has injured his groins. With the retirement of Rangana Herath, this is another blow to Sri Lanka, who would take any experience in their lineup at the moment. England meanwhile will be loving every bit of this cricket tour. Not only have they won the ODI series convincingly but they now look like winning their first Asia cricket series in a while.
England’s remarkable recovery on the first day of the first cricket test match shook Sri Lanka. They had no business coming back from the score of 103-5 in the first test match of an away test series. In Ben Foakes, they might have found a wicketkeeper-batsman of a lifetime, who not only resurrected England’s innings from a precarious position but also kept well on a tough pitch.
Sri Lanka, meanwhile, are struggling to find inspiration from anywhere in their lineup. They would have hoped to give a grand farewell to one of their great servants, Rangana Herath, but the party was spoiled, thanks to a spirited show from English bowlers and batsmen alike. They are just not able to get performances from the youngsters like Kusal Mendis on whom they spent quite a few years.
England, on the other hand, would be delighted with the way their bowlers bowled in the first cricket test match. From the pacers to all the three spinners, everyone seemed to have figured out the way to bowl on these kinds of Asian pitches. Even somebody like Sam Curran, who was expected to struggle in conditions bereft of any kind of swing, bowled with zeal and accuracy. Moeen Ali once again emerged as a star and he is fast becoming the bowler who can bat rather than the other way around. It is going to be tough for Sri Lanka to turn the tide now that most of their players are either out of form or injured.
Cricket Match Information:
England will look to create history when they will take on Sri Lanka in the second cricket test match. In the three-match test cricket series, England lead the series by 1-0. Sri Lankan team would do everything to avoid yet another home series loss, whereas if England win this test match, they will add another wonderful chapter to their long history.
Probable XI (Our Prediction):
England went with the three spinners in their lineup in the first game of cricket. Our prediction is they will go with the same eleven in the second cricket test match as well.
Here is our prediction of England’s playing XI:
- Keaton Jennings
- Rory Burns
- Joe Root
- Jos Butler
- Ben Stokes
- Ben Foakes
- Moeen Ali
- Sam Curran
- Adil Rashid
- James Anderson
- Jack Leach
Probable XI (Our Prediction):
Sri Lanka had the services of the legend Rangana Herath for one final time in the previous test cricket match. Now apart from his absence, they are also going to be missing the captaincy of Dinesh Chandimal, who will be missing this test match due to injury. In his absence, Suranga Lakmal will be leading Sri Lanka.
Here is our prediction of Sri Lanka’s playing XI:
- F Karunaratne
- Niroshan Dickwella
- Kusal Mendis
- Charith Asalanka
- Angelo Matthews
- JK Silva
- Malinda Pushpakumara
- Dhananjaya de Silva
- Dilruwan Perera
- Suranga Lakmal
- Akila Dhananjaya
Cricket Statistics and Prediction:
Joe Root had a quiet first game of cricket. He will be itching to make a substantial contribution to the team so that he can help himself and his team to win a rare series in Sri Lanka. Our prediction is of a big hundred from Root in the second game.
Cricket Match Conditions and Pitch:
Sri Lanka have no option but to prepare a rank turner so that they can restrict England batsman from scoring big runs. However, this also means that they will need to bat well as England spinners are no mug themselves. Conditions are expected to be dry.
England will begin the game as strong favourites. Something has to go horribly wrong if they will not win the series here at Pallekele. Our prediction is of a big England’s victory.
Top Batsman (Prediction):
Joe Root (ENG) – 50+ runs
Top Bowler (Prediction):
Moeen Ali (ENG) – 2 or more wickets
Most Sixes (Prediction):
Jos Butler (ENG)
Sri Lanka – 3.05
England – 2.10
