Cricket Match Preview:
Another ODI cricket series at home seems to be slipping away from Sri Lanka as they find themselves 2-0 against an in-form England side. It is truly a testing time if you are a Sri Lankan cricket fan. Almost everything is going wrong for them, from captaincy troubles, chopping and changing of players, to inconsistency in selection.
Arguably, scheduling a cricket series in Sri Lanka in this season is even worse than the Sri Lankan cricket team form. Almost every game has been marred by rains and the best bet at this point looks like a rain-curtailed game. This has also led to immense frustration among the crowds as they know that both teams are far from having an ideal preparation for the World Cup.
England, however, are making the most of whatever game time they are getting. They are in the process of filling whatever holes were left in a very formidable side. In the previous game at Kandy, Tom Curran got the opportunity to play the game and he impressed one and all with his variations while bowling. He will be a welcome addition to a team consisting of fine all-rounders like Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, are just not able to get the best out of their players. In their own conditions, they would have hoped for their batsmen to be comfortable against England bowlers but all they have managed to do is score an insufficient 30s and 40s. The form of skipper Dinesh Chandimal has also not been inspirational. They would have also hoped for their spinners to make an impact, which just has not been the case. It looks to be a tough road ahead for Sri Lanka if they are going to save this series.
Cricket Match Information:
England and Sri Lanka will take on each other in the 4th ODI at Kandy. England already have an unassailable lead of 2-0 over Sri Lanka and the latter would want to at least draw the series by winning the next two games. If they end up losing one of the next two games, Sri Lanka will end up losing two consecutive home ODI series. Earlier this year, South Africa had beaten Sri Lanka in the ODI series.
Probable XI (Our Prediction):
England gave young Olly Stone the opportunity to debut in the first cricket ODI game. While in the second cricket game, they gave the opportunity to Tom Curran. Both managed to impress everyone with their skills. Our prediction is to expect the same eleven as the third ODI.
Here is our prediction of England’s playing XI:
- Jason Roy
- J Bairstow
- Joe Root
- Eoin Morgan
- Ben Stokes
- Jos Butler
- Moeen Ali
- Tom Curran
- Adil Rashid
- Chris Woakes
- OP Stone
Probable XI (Our Prediction):
Sri Lanka are struggling, and they know it. They brought in an extra spinner in the third ODI, but such has been the conditions that he was completely ineffective in the game. Our prediction is they might stick with the same eleven especially if the conditions are better in the next game.
Here is our prediction of Sri Lanka’s playing XI:
- Kusal Mendis
- Niroshan Dickwella
- Dinesh Chandimal
- Sadira Samarawickrama
- NLTC Perera
- MD Shanaka
- Akila Dhananjaya
- Lasith Malinga
- N Pradeep
- Dhananjaya de Silva
- MA Aponso
Cricket Statistics and Prediction:
Johnny Bairstow has not managed to score as much as he would have liked so far in the series. Our prediction is to expect a fine performance from him in this game of cricket.
Cricket Match Conditions and Pitch:
Despite the rain halting the game for a good portion of hours in the third ODI, the pitch seemed pretty good for batting. Even the outfield was very good despite the rain. Our prediction is to expect a good score on the board especially if the rain stays away. Conditions are likely to be wet and rain is expected to be around even for this game of cricket.
England will begin this game as firm favourites as well. It is hard to dispute that fact seeing how games have gone so far in the series. Our prediction is to expect another one-sided victory for England.
Top Batsman (Prediction):
Johnny Bairstow (ENG) – 50+ runs
Top Bowler (Prediction):
Tom Curran – 2 or more wickets
Most Sixes (Prediction):
Johnny Bairstow (ENG)
Sri Lanka – 3.50
England – 1.29
