Cricket Match Preview:
Finally, everything seemed right, finally everything fell in the right places, finally the world seemed a fine place to live in, finally being a Sri Lankan fan was not a bad feeling, albeit for a solitary day. Sri Lanka rolled back the years in the final cricket ODI and they were also helped by the fact that England also rolled back the years and played like a poor ODI team they used to be over the years.
The more a team loses, the more it becomes a part of their habit to lose the games from any situation. That is exactly what was happening with Sri Lanka and now they would like to get into a winning habit as it would be a perfect timing to peak for the 2019 cricket World Cup. They did the basics right in the final ODI, got off to a good start with the bat and the middle order contributions made sure the momentum never stopped.
England on the other hand, perhaps either trying to test other combinations or through the sheer complacency, were never in the game. They let Sri Lanka score a mammoth 366 runs and then lost wickets like nine pins and found themselves at one stage at 28-4. Ultimately before the rain interruption, they were barely alive with the score of 132-9 and in the end, handed over a victory of 219 runs on D/L method to Sri Lanka.
However, being a reformed side that they are, England’s performance was publicly criticized by the skipper Eoin Morgan who chose to rest in the final cricket game and by coach Trevor Bayliss. They would not sit back on this result and let it affect their form. Players like Tom Curran and Sam Curran, who got the opportunity, do not have many opportunities before the World Cup to seal their positions hence, they must make every outing count.
For Sri Lanka, luckily England’s T20 side is not as settled as their ODI side. India beat England in England in three-match T20 cricket series and Sri Lanka should take heart from that fact.
Cricket Match Information:
England and Sri Lanka will take on each other in the only T20 International cricket game. Post this game both sides will play each other in the two-match Test series. England won the ODI series by a margin of 3-1. Sri Lanka won the last cricket ODI game and would like to continue the winning momentum in the T20 game as well.
Probable XI (Our Prediction):
England would like to give the opportunity to players like Tom Curran and Liam Plunkett in the solitary T20 cricket game. Our prediction is to expect Liam Plunkett to be added to the lineup.
Here is our prediction of England’s playing XI:
- Jason Roy
- Alex Hales
- Joe Root
- Eoin Morgan
- Ben Stokes
- Jos Butler
- Moeen Ali
- Tom Curran
- Adil Rashid
- Liam Plunkett
- OP Stone
Probable XI (Our Prediction):
Sri Lanka won the final cricket ODI game between the two sides. They have a slightly different T20 squad than the ODI team. Thisara Perera will be leading this side instead of Dinesh Chandimal. Our prediction is to expect a similar lineup to their final ODI game.
Here is our prediction of Sri Lanka’s playing XI:
- Kusal Mendis
- Niroshan Dickwella
- Dinesh Chandimal
- Kusal Perera
- NLTC Perera
- MD Shanaka
- Akila Dhananjaya
- Lasith Malinga
- N Pradeep
- Dhananjaya de Silva
- Dushmantha Chameera
Cricket Statistics and Prediction:
Akila Dhananjaya rocked the English batting lineup in the final cricket ODI game. He would like to repeat that performance in the T20 game as well. Our prediction is of at least a couple of wickets for Akila on a pitch made for spinners.
Cricket Match Conditions and Pitch:
Rain has mostly been coming during the latter half of the games and with this being a T20 game and starting in the evening, there is a real chance of rain affecting the game. Pitch will be spin-friendly if we get to see the game. Hence, our prediction is to expect scores of around 150 in this game of cricket.
Unlike the ODIs, Sri Lanka will begin this game of cricket as a favourite. They should be confident now and with England’s T20 side not being as good as their ODI side, our prediction is to expect a Sri Lankan win.
Top Batsman (Prediction):
Kusal Mendis (SL) – 50+ runs
Top Bowler (Prediction):
Akila Dhananjaya – 2 or more wickets
Most Sixes (Prediction):
Kusal Perera (SL)
Sri Lanka – 2.80
England – 2.65
