Cricket Match Preview:

Dimuth Karunaratne and his men will have another chance to gain some confidence in home conditions when they take on New Zealand in the second cricket test match. They have not had a lot of success in the format both in home conditions as well as away conditions. Their biggest success in the last few years came earlier in 2019 when they became the first-ever Asian side to win a cricket series in South Africa.
New Zealand, on the other hand, have been quite consistent in the longer format with success in home conditions against Sri Lanka last year as well as reasonable success against Pakistan in UAE. Not many sides go to UAE and come back with success and New Zealand played a drawn cricket series against Pakistan in the desert.
New Zealand know that Sri Lanka is not the easiest place to tour for any cricket team. They have begun to get some stability under Dimuth Karunaratne and if they continue to show similar improvement, they may finally get a sustained period of success. They clean-swept Bangladesh in the three-match ODI cricket series immediately after the World Cup and they would be hoping to continue the winning momentum against New Zealand as well.
Under the ICC World Test Championship, every test match and every single test cricket series will have great significance. That will make every test match very competitive and all the sides would like to have as much success as they can. The teams’ away wins are going to be of utmost importance as most teams will be expected to win in home conditions.

Cricket Match Information:

Sri Lanka will take on New Zealand in the second cricket test match at Colombo. This cricket series is part of ICC World Test Championship, which will keep track of all the test matches being played by the teams.

Sri Lanka

Probable XI (Our Prediction):

Sri Lanka are going to be led by Dimuth Karunaratne in this cricket series. Sri Lanka have not had a great form in the longer format of the game for some time now but had a remarkable success earlier in the year against South Africa. Our prediction is of the same playing eleven that played the first test match.

Here is our prediction of Sri Lanka’s playing XI:

  • FDM Karunaratne
  • HDRL Thirimanne
  • BOP Fernando
  • BKG Mendis
  • Angelo Matthews
  • MDKJ Perera
  • DM de Silva
  • N Dickwella
  • RAS Lakmal
  • MVT Fernando
  • L Embuldeniya

New Zealand

Probable XI (Our Prediction):

New Zealand are being led by Kane Williamson in this cricket series. They are playing the longer format of the cricket game after some time now. Our prediction is of the same playing eleven that played the first test match at Galle.

Here is our prediction of New Zealand’s playing XI:

  • JA Raval
  • Henry Nichols
  • Kane Williamson
  • Ross Taylor
  • Tom Latham
  • BJ Watling
  • Colin de Grandhomme
  • Trent Boult
  • AY Patel
  • Tim Southee
  • Neil Wagner

Cricket Statistics and Prediction:

New Zealand’s test team have two men of steel, Neil Wagner and BJ Watling. They are massively underrated because their impact on their side’s success has been huge in the longer format and yet you rarely hear about these men. Wagner’s relentless short balls have led to the fall of many a side across formats, whereas Watling’s resolve has dig New Zealand out of the problem many times.

Cricket Match Conditions and Pitch:

The last international cricket test match played here was between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in 2017. Bangladesh won that cricket game by four wickets in a hard-fought game. The pitch is expected to turn as always in Sri Lanka, but New Zealand have some fine players of spin in their rank. Our prediction is of the score of around 300 for 6 at the end of day 1 play.

Our Prediction:

Sri Lanka will begin this game of cricket as favourites. They are a strong team in home conditions hence, our prediction is of Sri Lanka’s win in this game of cricket and a good day 1 for them with the bat.

Top Batsman (Prediction):

Kusal Perera (SL) – 50+ runs

Top Bowler (Prediction):

Neil Wagner (NZ) – 2 or more wickets

Most Sixes (Prediction):

Kusal Perera (SL)
