Sydney Thunder

Sydney Thunder are being led by Callum Ferguson in this season. They are currently placed at the fifth spot with just four wins out of nine cricket games. After beginning well, they seemed to have lost all the momentum by losing three back-to-back games. However, they registered a much-needed win for themselves in the last game against Hobart Hurricanes.

Sydney Thunder chased down the total of 163 runs set by Hobart Hurricanes in their last game and kept their dream of playoffs alive.

Our prediction is of the same playing eleven that played the last cricket game.

Here is our prediction of Sydney Thunder’s playing XI:

  • Callum Ferguson
  • Usman Khawaja
  • Alex Hales
  • M Gikes
  • AI Ross
  • CH Morris
  • DR Sams
  • N McAndrew
  • AJ Nair
  • CP Tremain
  • L Bowe

Melbourne Renegades

The defending champions, Melbourne Renegades, have had a miserable season. The winners of last season have stayed at the bottom throughout the season and now their dream of qualifying for the playoffs looks improbable.

Renegades have played nine cricket games and lost all the games so far in the tournament. The nature of their losses has begun getting bigger. While earlier in the season they were scoring runs but were unable to defend it, they were bowled out for just 110 runs in the last cricket game.

Our prediction is of changes to the playing eleven of a struggling side.

Here is our prediction of Melbourne Renegades’ playing XI:

  • Shaun Marsh
  • Dan Christian
  • TLW Cooper
  • Mohammad Nabi
  • BJ Webster
  • SB Harper
  • SR Patel
  • RJ Gleeson
  • CJ Boyce
  • Marcus Harris
  • JM Mennie

Expert Prediction: ST vs MR

Sydney Thunder will be looking to accumulate two important points in their next game of cricket against Melbourne Renegades. The latter have been miserable this season and every side with the ambition to qualify for the playoffs are looking to get much-needed points. Renegades can now only hope to play with freedom and spoil the fun for teams in contention of playoffs.

The Big Bash League has been changed as a format this year. The tournament will be played over a period of 42 days and a total number of five teams will have the chance to qualify for the finals, instead of the usual four teams.

As per the new format, the teams finishing in the top two will be rewarded for their consistency, unlike in previous seasons. While the winner of the ‘qualifier’ played between the top two teams will reach the final straightaway, the loser will play the ‘challenger’ against the winner of the ‘knockout’ which is going to be played between the side that finished third and winner of the ‘eliminator’.

The Eliminator is a newly introduced knockout feature, which will be played between the teams finishing at number fourth and fifth on the points table. Hence, out of the eight teams, five teams will have a chance to play the final and win the tournament.

In the last five encounters between the two sides, Melbourne Renegades have been thoroughly dominant with four wins, whereas Thunder have only managed to win one cricket game. However, the things have changed a lot this year and a Renegades’ win would be termed an upset if it happens.

Toss prediction? – The team winning the toss will look to bowl first as the T20 game is hugely a chase-friendly format. Hence, irrespective of the conditions, our prediction is that the team winning the toss would like to bowl first.
