Sussex vs Glamorgan Prediction

Sussex vs Glamorgan INFO:

Event: 2018 Vitality Blast

League: Twenty20 cricket

When14th of August 2018

Start Time

Where: Sophia Gardens Cardiff

In the last five T20 games played between the two sides, Glamorgan has beaten Sussex 2 times while the most recent game went to Sussex. Sussex have 4 wins in 11 games while their opponents are well positioned with 7 wins out of the twelve games. However, more importantly, Sussex are now in need to win almost all their games while Glamorgan is not under any such pressure. Keeping next round in mind the latter would want to continue their winning run and finish the group stages at the top.

Led by Luke Wright and coached by Jason Gillespie Sussex would have expected to do better but they would feel they were well positioned in their last game when the match was called off. They were 159 for 2 in 13 overs when the match was cut short. They are now in need of three out of three to keep their fate in own hands. Otherwise, they would have to depend on others to get them through.

However, if any side can it is them, they would believe, having players like Luke Wright, Jofra Archer and the Superstar of this format Rashid Khan. The problem has been the fact that their much-celebrated men have not been able to set the stage alight. One would expect either or ideally both Archer and Rashid Khan to appear at the top of the bowling charts. But instead, they have been average at best. While Archer has picked up 13 wickets, his wickets have come at a price. His economy rate is 8.02. For Rashid Khan who must now be habituated to come at the top of any bowling stats around the world, this has been a disappointing tournament. He has picked up 11 wickets so far at an economy rate of 7.03. They would also like others to step up if they want to be in contention and win the tournament. It won’t be enough if only a few individuals are going to carry them.

For Glamorgan, their skipper Colin Ingram has been a revelation having scored 352 runs at an impressive strike rate of almost 170. His contributions have been invaluable in keeping Glamorgan where they are at the points table. He has been ably supported by T van der Gugten who has picked up 15 wickets in 9 games at an economy rate of 10. This game might well be decided by how well Rashid and company bowl to Colin Ingram. Even then they have enough firepower and back up to get better of Sussex. With overseas batsmen of the calibre of Usman Khwaja, Shaun Marsh still in the mix Glamorgan remains one of the favourites to win the title and not just qualify for the next round.

The Vitality Blast is now reaching its business end. The group stages of the tournament are now in its last leg and the battle to get into the knock out stages is fast getting intense. As of now Durham, Worcestershire are leading the North Group table while Somerset and Gloucestershire are leading the South Group. At number three in the South, Group is Kent and their next opponent is Sussex. Having beaten Glamorgan in their previous encounter Sussex would want to continue that pattern. While Glamorgan is almost certain to reach the knock out stages, Sussex still has a lot to do.

Captains have chosen to bat second more often than not in T20s and it is a trend which is on rising consistently. Especially with tournaments at a stage where it is the teams would like to chase more as knowing what to chase will keep them in good stead than the uncertainty of defending the totals.

Pitches have been terrific for run scoring in England and this one should be no different. However, at Brighton where the game is going to be played the highest score has been 192 made by Surrey against Sussex. Out of the three games played here so far two have been won by the team batting second while the one occasion on which the side batting first won was the game against Sussex for Surrey. Our prediction is to expect the runs being scored although not above 200. Team batting second would fancy their chances.

Glamorgan will start as favourite to win the game on this occasion keeping in mind the pressure the Sussex will be under in this game. Sussex would want their star players to come to the party especially their bowlers Jofra Archer and Rashid Khan. Their battle with Colin Ingram may as well dictate the game. We are going with Glamorgan as our choice to win this one.
