Team B Captain: AJ Turner
Cricket Match Preview:
In the last five games of cricket played between the two sides, Western Australia have managed to beat the Tasmanian side in every occasion, except the one game played in 2015 tournament, when Western Australia failed to chase down the total of 222 runs by 15 runs.
In this tournament, while Tasmania have been pretty good, Western Australia have been even better, especially in their last game against the Queensland, where they came into their own, thanks to a record breaking knock by D’Arcy Short of 287 runs. Everyone in the cricket world stood up and noticed the carnage unleashed by Short against a pretty good domestic bowling line-up.
Tasmania will therefore be wary of the strength of Western Australia’s batting might and would like to put some pressure via their bowling on their top order. In Tasmania’s last game against South Australia, Tasmanian bowlers bowled brilliantly and restricted their opponents to an under-par total. Every bowler chipped in with the wickets. Jackson Bird, their spearhead, picked up one wicket at a very cheap rate. GS Sandhu along with RP Meredith picked up two wickets each and were the pick of the bowlers.
Their batting has been in pretty good form as shown by a fluent hundred from BR McDermott, who scored 102 out of 120 deliveries and finished off the run chase. JC Silk has been in a pretty good form as well. They would want their skipper George Bailey to come to the party as well before the finals begin.
Western Australia, on the other hand, are in unbelievable form with the bat. Prior to the game where they scored 387 against Queensland, they chased down the total of 200 runs set by Victoria in only 28.3 overs and won the game of cricket with the bonus points. They have three international bowlers in their line-up – Jhye Richardson, Nathan Coulter-Nile and Andrew Tye, showing their depth.
It is going to be a tough game of cricket considering that the top two teams are clashing. It may well be the clash between the batting line-up of Western Australia and bowling of Tasmania.
Cricket Match Information:
Tasmania and Western Australia will clash with each other on Hurstville Oval ground in Sydney. It will be their fifth game in the tournament. Both teams are certain to finish at the top 2 position in the group stage before the Qualifying Finals begin on 3rd October.
