Cricket Match Preview:

The Tshwane Spartans are battle ready. They face a daunting challenge as they confront the formidable Cape Town Blitz. The Spartans made a recovery of sorts when they defeated Jozi Stars in the last match played on their home ground. On the same ground, they will want to build the momentum with another win.

After playing three away games where the Spartans picked a slim win, they faced a heart-breaking loss against NMBG at Supersport Park, Centurion. The home team was looking set for another loss when they conceded 186 runs against Jozi Stars. Jeevan Mendis grabbed two wickets, and Sean Williams bowled a remarkable spell of 0/14 in his four overs but other bowlers proved disappointing.

The chase did not begin well as Spartans’ opener G Cloete was sent back in the second over. Dean Elgar held one end but kept losing his partners frequently. AB De Villiers once again stepped for the team and played a brisk inning of 39 from 21 balls. After ABD’s dismissal, Elgar assumed the mantle and carried the team past the target with the stunning knock of 79 from 52 balls.

Cape Town Blitz began their campaign with a thumping win over Tshwane Spartans and then went on to win three subsequent games. The spree was halted by Paarl Rocks, and the next game of the Blitz was a washout. Thus, the team will be short on confidence.

The batting unit of CT Blitz collapsed against Paarl Rocks and it will remain a worry. After the fall of De Kock, J Malan and Phehlukwayo, no Blitz batsman managed to score more than 12 runs and the team was folded for 140 runs. The Rocks chased it with ease once the threat of Dale Steyn went away.

The Spartans did face Blitz in the first match of the MSL. The Blitz raised a total of 180/4, thanks to Verreynne and Mohammad Nawaz. The Spartans were all out for 131 as all the Blitz bowlers shared wickets.

Cricket Match Information:

This is the 17th Cricket match of the Mzansi Super League. This is the sixth cricket match of Tshwane Spartans and third at the home cricket ground. The Spartans currently occupy the fourth place on the points table with two wins from their five matches. Their last match against Jozi Stars was a win.

Cape Town Blitz will be playing its seventh cricket match. They began with four consecutive wins but lost the match versus Paarl Rocks. Their next game was a washout. Cape Town Blitz is still at the top position.

Tshwane Spartans

Probable XI (Our Prediction):

Tshwane Spartans have persisted with the new look playing XI. They sent Dean Elgar at the top in the last match and the move worked out marvellously. Lungi Ngidi has been ruled out of the season and it will hurt them. Sikandar Raza is also expected to stay on the bench.

Here is our prediction of Tshwane Spartans playing XI:

  • Gihahn Cloete (wk)
  • Dean Elgar
  • Corbin Bosch
  • Theunis de Bruyn
  • AB de Villiers (c)
  • Tony de Zorzi
  • Robbie Frylinck
  • Sean Williams
  • Jeevan Mendis
  • Lutho Sipamla
  • Eldred Hawken

 Cape Town Blitz

Probable XI (Our Prediction):

Cape Town Blitz faced a major blow as Anrich Nortje has been injured and ruled out of the cricket tournament. He was already out of the team and the playing XI is likely to remain the same.

Here is our prediction of Cape Town Blitz playing XI:

  • Quinton de Kock (wk)
  • Janneman Malan
  • Andile Phehlukwayo
  • Farhaan Behardien (c)
  • Asif Ali
  • Hussain Talat
  • Ferisco Adams
  • George Linde
  • Dane Piedt
  • Malusi Siboto
  • Dale Steyn

Cricket Statistics and Prediction:

Of course AB De Villiers will hog the limelight wherever he plays. He has scored a few important runs for his side but we are yet to witness something really special from the South African genius. De Kock began well in the last match for the Blitz, he will also be hoping for a big score.

Cricket Match Conditions and Pitch:

There have been two MSL cricket matches played at this ground so far. First match was marred by the rain where the batting side scored 143/9. Second game was a high-scoring affair where Tshwane Spartans managed to chase down 187 runs.

Our Prediction:

Considering the track record, the history favors Cape Town Blitz to come up on the top. However, the Tshwane Spartans have the momentum on their side. They have won their last match and playing at the home ground will be advantageous as well. So our prediction will be of Tshwane Spartans’ victory.

Top Batsman (Prediction):

Quinton De Kock (CTB) – 40+ runs

Top Bowler (Prediction):

Jeevan Mendis (TS) – 2 or more wickets

Most Sixes (Prediction):

Asif Ali (CTB)
