Cricket match location: SuperSport Park, Centurion
Cricket Match format: T20
Tournament: Mzansi Super League
Team A: Tshwane Spartans
Team B: Nelson Mandela Bay Giants
Team A Captain: AB de Villiers
Team B Captain: JI Smuts
Cricket Match Preview:
Mzansi Super League is now progressing towards the middle stage. Almost all the teams have played three games of cricket and there is very little separating them from each other on the points table. Cape Town Blitz are sitting pretty at the top with three wins out of three games of cricket, while the other teams are very closely stacked with just one win separating 2nd spot team Nelson Mandela Bay Giants and 5th spot team Tshwane Spartans.
After a four-day break, Spartans, led by AB de Villiers, will be on the park playing their fourth game of cricket against Giants. They have shown signs of their true potential in brief periods but have not managed to string together the team performance in all the three games. Their batting looks a bit too reliant on two to three individuals like AB de Villiers and GL Cloete, which was on display once again in their loss in the last game against Durban Heat.
Nelson Mandela Bay Giants, on the other hand, will be confident with their convincing win over Durban Heat. Giants sent Heat to bat first and their opening bowlers, Junior Dala and Chris Morris, bowled brilliantly to restrict Heat to a score of under-par 127 for 6 in 20 overs. In reply, skippers Smuts and Marais put on a fantastic opening partnership of 94 runs and virtually won the game for Giants.
With teams so closely stacked to each other, every game from here on becomes very important for each team. Each win will shake the points table and we will get to see the teams going up and down rapidly with each game of cricket. Giants would like to consolidate their position at the top and Spartans would like to stop their downward slide.
Cricket Match Information:
Tshwane Spartans will take on Nelson Mandela Bay Giants in their fourth game of cricket in the first edition of Mzansi Super League. So far, Spartans are on the second last spot in the points table due to just one win in three games while Giants are on the second spot with two wins out of three games of cricket.
Probable XI (Our Prediction):
Spartans had a poor last game of cricket against the Heat. Our prediction is they will go with Riley Russow in place of Sikandar Raza in their playing eleven to improve their batting.
Here is our prediction of Tshwane Spartans playing XI:
- GL Cloete
- TB de Bruyn
- AB de Villiers
- Riley Russouw
- Dean Elgar
- T de Zorzi
- RK Klienveldt
- R Frylinck
- ACR Birch
- BMAJ Mendis
- L Sipamla
Nelson Mandela Bay Giants
Probable XI (Our Prediction):
Giants have won two games out the three games played. They lost their second game of cricket after winning the first game comfortably. They continued their winning way in their third cricket game. Hence, our prediction is they will go with the same eleven as their last game of cricket.
Here is our prediction of Giant’s playing XI:
- M Marais
- JT Smuts
- Ben Duckett
- SSB Magala
- C Jonker
- Chris Morris
- SSB Magala
- RS Second
- CJ Dala
- Aaron Phangiso
- Imran Tahir
Cricket Statistics and Prediction:
Imran Tahir was a bit expensive in his last game of cricket. Being a premier spinner in the country he would like to impose himself a bit more in the remainder of the tournament. Our prediction is of a good game for him against Spartans.
Cricket Match Conditions and Pitch:
Centurion has always been a beautiful batting ground. In the last International T20 cricket game played here, India could not defend the total of 188 runs and South Africa got to their total easily. Our prediction is of a similar high scoring game of cricket. Conditions are expected to be dry.
Nelson Mandela Bay Giants will begin the game as favourites. On paper, they look like a better side at the moment. However, the things could change completely for Tshwane Spartans if AB de Villiers rediscovers his peak form. He has threatened without actually going on to score big so far in the tournament. Hence, Giants will have to be careful and have a good match-up for AB when he walks out to bat. The way they bowl to AB will go a long way to decide the outcome of this game of cricket.
Top Batsman (Prediction):
JT Smuts (NMBG) – 50+ runs
Top Bowler (Prediction):
Imran Tahir (NMBG) – 2 or more wickets
Most Sixes (Prediction):
JT Smuts (NMBG)
Tshwane Spartans – 1.60
Nelson Mandela Bay Giants – 2.10
