Cricket Match Preview:
Victoria were quite lucky to reach the semi-final of JLT cup as their game against New South Wales got washed out. After the abandonment of that game, Victoria were ahead of New South Wales by just 0.02 on the net run rate. Before that game, Victoria had won two cricket games out of the five played.
Western Australia did not need any such fortunes to march ahead. Not only were they the table-toppers by winning all five cricket games, but they were also doing it all in style. They have played some remarkably exciting cricket in this tournament. With the presence of record-breaking D’Arcy Short and Marcus Stoinis, their batting looks very strong.
Victoria and Western Australia have already played each other earlier in the tournament when the latter proved to be too strong. Western Australia won that cricket game by six wickets chasing 200 with 129 balls remaining. Apart from that game, Western Australia have been too good for Victoria as they have won four out of the last five cricket games.
While it may seem like the batsmen are doing all the damage for Western Australia, their bowling too is not too weak. With the presence of international stars like Nathan Coulter-Nile, Andrew Tye, Jason Behrendorff and Jhye Richardson, they have one of the best bowling lineups in the tournament.
Victoria, on the other hand, have some of the big names as well. Glenn Maxwell, Peter Handscomb and Cameron White have all played for Australia. However, they have not been as successful in this tournament as their Western Australian counterparts. Their bowling, led by Chris Tremain and Scott Boland, have international cricket exposure as well. But it will be all about how they perform under pressure against such a strong batting lineup.
Just like Queensland, Western Australia’s batting is too strong, but the difference is that they also have a fine bowling lineup. This shows that Victoria are up against it but it is not an impossible task. If their bowlers, especially Fawad Ahmed, manage to strike regularly in middle overs, then it might make things interesting to watch.
Cricket Match Information:
Victoria and Western Australia will take on each other in the second cricket semi-final of the JLT One-day cup. Tasmania has already won the first semi-final against Queensland and are awaiting the result of this game to play in the Final of this edition of the tournament on 10th October.
Probable XI (Our Prediction):
Victoria are coming off a loss in their last cricket game that was played against South Australia. However, they came quite close to chasing the total posted by South Australia, hence, our prediction is to expect the same eleven as their last game.
Here is our prediction of Victoria’s playing XI:
- Cameron White
- MS Harris
- Nick Maddinson
- Peter Handscomb
- Glenn Maxwell
- MW Harvey
- SE Gotch
- Chris Tremain
- Scott Boland
- JR Coleman
- Fawad Ahmed
Probable XI (Our Prediction):
There is absolutely no way Western Australia are going to change their lineup after the huge win in their last game. Hence, our prediction is to expect an unchanged lineup from them.
Here is our prediction of Western Australia’s playing XI:
- JP Philippe
- JP Inglis
- D’Arcy Short
- AJ Turner
- Marcus Stoinis
- HWR Cartwright
- JA Richardson
- Usman Qadir
- JP Behrendroff
- Andrew Tye
- Nathan Coulter-nile
Cricket Statistics and Prediction:
Glenn Maxwell has not exactly set the JLT cup on fire. Considering his current situation with Australian selectors, he will have to do exactly that in remaining games. Our prediction is to expect a good knock from him in this big game.
Cricket Match Conditions and Pitch:
There has been only two games played in Melbourne so far in this tournament. Both games of cricket did not produce a huge score. The highest score being 265 of South Australia against Victoria. Clearly run-scoring has not been too easy here as in the rest of the venues of JLT Cup. Our prediction is to expect the highest score of this tournament in Melbourne, keeping in mind the two very strong batting lineups. Conditions are expected to be dry for this game.
Western Australia will be overwhelming favorites for this game of cricket. Their past track record and the form that they are in makes it hard to look past them in this second cricket semi-final. Our prediction is to expect Western Australian win barring a phenomenal performance from someone from Victoria’s camp.
Top Batsman (Prediction):
Peter Handscomb (VIC) – 50+ runs
Top Bowler (Prediction):
Andrew Tye (WA) – 2 or more wickets
Most Sixes (Prediction):
